Man...I am right on the cusp of ordering a 2011 WRX hatch....I hope the auto show in April shows the wagon model, and gives a date for the WRX version...It might be worth the wait.

I thought the same exact thing, I'm about to pull the trigger on an EVO or an STi and then I saw this. In STi trim, it could be very desirable.

You realize this concept is actually smaller than the current Impreza right? It is shorter with a lower height and slightly wider. Pretty sure that is exactly what most people want.

I have a 2009 Legacy Spec B and the current Impreza is virtually the same size as my car which I agree is to big. I had a 2007 WRX a few years ago and felt that was a perfect size for that car segment.

.......................Concept vs Sedan vs Hatch
Overall Length: ...177.95 vs 180.3 vs 173.8
Width ................71.65 vs 70.7 vs 70.7
Height: ..............56.29 vs 57.9 vs 57.9
Wheelbase: ........103.93 vs 103.3 vs 103.3

The concept is right in between the length of the Sedan and the Hatch. Also, the wheel base is slightly longer than the current car.

So... you're not going back to GD size. Still Legacy/2011 Impreza size.

But not that far off. The 2007 WRX Sedan was:
OAL .............. 175.8"
W ................ 68.5"
H ................. 56.7"
WB .............. 99.4" (Which was too short for decent rear seat legroom)

On the other hand the current Leggy Sedan is:
OAL ............. 186.4"
W ............... 71.7"
H ................ 59.3"
WB ............. 108.3"

get used to it.... subaru changes things all the time..... it's normal. if you like the 2011 go for it. i have one and had 99rs. i saw the 02, 04, 06, 08 changes... so didn't bother me. when i got my 99rs, it was only over a year till wrx came out.

there's always new cars...

If you like the 11, I would wait until the new one comes out and try to buy an 11 that is still on the lot when the 12's start arriving. Subaru will be itching to get them off the lot so you should be able to get a deal. Or you may find people who just bought 11's trading them in to get the new one, so you could get a used 11 with low miles. Of course you might have to wait until next year for that so it's your choice really. My guess would be that the 12 WRX will start showing up in September/October but you never know.

The GD was too small in the back seat. The current Legacy is too big.

The current Impreza is a great size.

Correct as I said it's shorter than the current Impreza, why would you compare a hatch length to a sedan? I am sure the hatch 2012 would also be shorter than the current.

This concept would be very similar in size to the 2007, I doubt the Impreza will ever get back down to the GD size it just wont happen unfortunately. Subaru would bring out a small car before doing that.

I am just happy it's getting smaller and not bigger...I fully expected a new designed Impreza to be larger than my current Legacy which would have been quite sad.

I like the size of the current impreza. When I autoxx my saabaru, my helmet doesn't really fit. I have to put the seat back and cheat to the middle of the car. I sat in an 09 w/ sunroof and had plenty of room.

A wrx with a 6-speed getting high 20s would make me a buyer. Looks don't matter as much to me.

But the wheel base is about the same, the interior size is about the same. The concept just has different bumpers which is reducing the length as compared to the current sedan.

We do not want the GD size. It is too small. You need to be able to fit adults in the backseat w/o their knees in your back.

An interesting change for the 2012/2013 WRX would be using the setup that is currently in the 2010+ LGT. Obviously this is pure speculation, but that would be interesting. No more teh Subaru rumblez though!!1!1!

To some that's a good thing. I find the rumble tolerable with the stock exhaust but obnoxious with some of the aftermarket cat-backs.

The Previous legacy is a great size... and the current impreza isn't too far off, but ugly. The previous legacy was a bit longer in wheelbase and length.

The new Legacy is far too big, and VERY much too tall.

If this new Impreza is as good looking as the IDC, and if the WRX/STI is compelling the next year... I could replace my '05 Legacy with a '13 or '14 turbo model.

I wish for an H6 equipped model, or a coupe bodystyle, or both... but I would consider a well equipped turbo 4 sedan with a stick.

Hopefully the STI will keep the features it has, and upgrade further, not lose things like the 09 Legacy Spec B compared to '10 Legacy GT.

There still is not a Subaru car comparable to the feature set of the 2009 Legacy GT Spec B. An ECU tune and slight turbocharger unit upgrade, a DCCD switch, 5x114.3 Brembos and BBS wheels, and maybe a front limited slip diff, are the only things that separate that from a WRX STI... and the STI is uglier, inside and out, compared to an 09 Legacy Spec B.

If we had gotten the WRB Legacy S402... I really would have been pushed to upgrade my Legacy to that. Unfortunately blue was the only color for 2009 that the Legacy Spec B was still denied, after being opened up to most of the Legacy GT's color palette from 1 or 2 mandatory grayscale paint choices since 2006. Ironic, because the 2007 Spec B had blue alcantara interior trims... but never offered blue paint. The 2009 Spec B barely offered dark ruby red paint, and the first color choice I could again consider after the 2005 Garnet Red and Regal Blue choices. Ruby isn't as nice as Garnet, and no blue at all allowed me to skip paying money to upgrade from my 2005 to a 2009. If my car were totalled by a freak accident, (which I am absolutely not hoping for), I might immediately replace it with a 2009 Legacy Spec B or 3.0R Limited, depending on which I could actually find. I wish I could get a 3.0R Spec B, like overseas got... a 3.0R WITH the VTD 6MT gearbox, not either-or like the US market.

Maybe almost a decade after building my 2005 Legacy GT, they'll finally get back around to building an attractive car, in an attractive color combination, with an extensive feature set... maybe just before 2015.

Where has it been said that the WRX/STi versions are not until 2013? I thought in the past the Imprezas and WRX/STi's both migrated to the new body style the same year. I could have sworn they did for 2008. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I believe the next gen STI will not carry over the same engine and driveline like 08 so it may take longer to prove and tune a new turbo engine and AWD system.

Go sit in your back seat for a 3 hour trip w/ 3 people. Then go sit in the back of an 08 WRX or 10 Legacy. It is a lot better.
