Seems that even 33s on the 3.5 Tacoma will be a challenge when loaded down with weight without a regear but the latest tune community tunes are quite good and provide significant improvement in low end torque along with better transmission behavior. Hard to believe that a turbo 4 would push around 35s and a bunch of gear without downshifting though

That turbo 4 also has a 10 speed transmission behind it.

To be fair he's got the Ford Performance tune on it but even so, mighty impressive IMHO.

A modern trans would make a huge difference in the Taco. But why fix what ain't broke for most buyers?

The Tremor is probably overpriced IMHO. Better to go for an XLT or something in that sense. Most American cars still end up having somewhat chintzy plastics which I find surprising given comparably priced imports. I will say the plastics in the Cadillac my wife was interested in seemed nice enough. But then again it was a Cadillac!

Ahh yes, forgot about that gearbox. I was not a fan of the f150 rental I had with the 10spd but the 5L engine was very good.

The 6 speed auto is not bad with a descent transmission calibration on it, but from the factory it's pretty terrible. Aggressively upshifting, I assume to net best mpg possible, but it's just poorly done from the driver's prospective. I have 32"+tires on mine and with a good tune it is never lacking for power. Holds 70-80mph in 6th gear loaded down with gear no problem. Climbing hills or passing only requires a shift to 5th unless you floor it and it goes down to 4th. After a few weeks I hated the way it drove as far as engine performance and transmission behavior when I first bought it, now it's enjoyable to drive.

I think the tremor could be a good truck, but to get what I am getting with the taco it would be 4-5k more. I would look at an xlt but it doesn’t have the upgrade suspension the tremor has

Better to spend $4-$5k on your own suspension. Easier to fix suspension than add a lot of power.

Either way, I’m just sticking with my Tacoma order anyway. It’s got what I want, and it’s a manual!

More and more unconventional but I just like driving manual. I figured if this is going to be the last ICE car I buy (which likely, if my fiancée does buy the 400Z in a few years, that will be our last), I wanted to knock something off the bucket list and order my own the way I wanted.

I dunno if it counts as a truck, or a Toyota, but I bought this guy ('99 Lexus LX470- just a fancy land cruiser) last year as a driver/4WD project/kid car/whatever. Evvvvver so slowly working through the little old car issues and reliability fixes that come with a quarter million miles of use, but altogether most of those fall into the "a little bit annoying but no super big deal" category, just pretty normal old car stuff. I recently got it brought back to life after the original alternator croaked... probably mostly because the power steering lines had got old and porous and were dribbling fluid into it for quite a while. I spend a couple hours and a few bucks on it every week, chipping away.

Very nice! It looks like you have the wrong wheels on there and only 4 lug nuts to boot. Be careful.

Edit: it looks like those are the right wheels. I thought all land cruisers had 6x5.5 hubs? Still missing lug nuts though.

Sweet! I picked up a 06 LC last year too, just before COVID hit hard. It's been a fun project so far. In case you didn't know, the forum IH8mud is full of great info regarding these trucks. Just be warned there are quite a few snobs on there too that thumb their noses at people who don't do all of theier own work on their trucks.

Yeah- I've trolled Mud on and off for years- lots of great resources there. I think those snobs/ "well I do all MY own work so YOU must be LAME" people are everyhwere. Damn internet car boards.

I'd always kinda wanted a land cruiser, and back the last time I was looking I think these 100-series ones were still kinda new, and prices were $$$$$ still. It's actually pretty easy to work on, and pretty noob friendly (this one in particular since it was evidently owned by a couple of senior citizens in Memphis the first 16 years of its life, and since I just took it even further south it's clean as a pin underneath). A buddy of mine was the next owner for a few, upgraded to a 200-series and had this one to offload, and I took it as is where is, and have just been kinda just putting in some time and energy on it as I can. It's fun. When I have had it more reliable a while it's going in the woods with me some- hopefully this summer and fall I'll be ready for that.

Yeah- 100 series all have 5-lug wheels. Old pic- the broken studs and missing lugs are fixed. My buddy drove it like that a while, he was unconcerned.

After two months my dealer finally got the allocation for my build, which means tentative build date should be coming soon. Still thinking it will be August by the time it hits the dealer.

Something else might go on there one day, and that's definitely in the running then. Tundra wheels are a popular choice for kind of the OEM+ look and a little bigger wheel, but I don't really mind the extra sidewall for offroad purposes. Those tires have quite a bit of life left and I'm not in a big hurry there. Dull stuff like "what's this CEL about" and "need to flush the AHC" and "man that clunk in the driveshaft needs attention" first.

Default OT BroYota Truck Thread

I’ll hit 60k miles tomorrow running kids around to sports. I’ve got all the fluids for the diffs/t-case, extended brake lines, and rear diff breather to put on along with normal oil change stuff.

Still waiting for my king front shocks. Hoping for soon I will probably ping the shop next week as it has been a month since I last checked. I’m in week 14/15 of a 14-20wk estimated lead time at order. As the weather gets nicer I’m really ready to get the lift on.

I lucked out with finding a fairly rust free LC that lived the majority of its life ouside the rust belt. Mine didn't have AHC, so tossing a lift on wasn't too difficult. I've driven it to a few trails in Wisconsin and Colorado so far. I'm hoping to make it out to Utah sometime this year.

I’m at 59740 on my 2016. I might change the oil this weekend.

I'm good with the AHC as long as the AHC is working. I'd love to roll mine out west, but at 12.2MPG it gets expensive. Will probably hit some parks and national forests out this way, maybe try the Georgia traverse at some point.

The southern-ness is nice. I've been under mine several times for this and that, and it's great to just... not have rust at all. Between Memphis and Birmingham this thing's probably seen snow maybe a couple dozen times total, and salt? Not unless it was on a road trip somewhere.

I’m taking this moment in the vehicles life to kinda just do it and reset everything. Plus I went in water definitely over the diff last year a couple times.

Brake lines are needed for the lift so then why not flush all fluid. Needed rear lines but decided to get stainless for the front too. Unnecessary but why not. All of this is a slippery slope.

As of right now I plan on having the vehicle for a very long time.

https://www.motor1.com/news/508794/2022-toyota-land-cruiser-specs/

So based off the new Land Cruiser, the new Tundra will have TTV6 with 410hp/480tq, 10 speed trans, new coil rear, etc.

Was hoping they were going to totally raise the half ton bar like they did with the 07, but still don’t see myself getting out of my 2018 Platinum for the 2022. Especially since I have new Falcon front and rears on the way.

Will be patiently waiting for them to come out with a Tundra / Sequoia Prime ala the RAV4 and Highlander.
