Default Busted my TGV motor

Long story short, I busted the thing into two pieces installing my turbo inlet. I'm picking up another one tomorrow but I was told I need to pre-load the valve, another forum said to install the motor so the plug receptacle is at the 12 o'clock position then turn entire thing so the mounting holes line up. Sound correct?

I don't believe you have to preload the motor side. The other side has a sensor to determine the angle of opening of the tgv's inside the housing. That sensor needs to be preloaded by inserting it, then rotating 90*. I have never really played with the motor side before, but wouldn't think it would have the preload as it is controling the movement of the rod.

I also don't think scoobymods has anything about the motor replacement. They have the sensor replacement bit on there I am sure of.

So while the car is off I'm assuming the valves are shut?

I had this issue, it was fixed with plumbers tape bent around the sensor and bolted in, been working fine for 50k miles!

If you are very careful you can use JB weld, or even one of those acrylate instant glues. I have done lots of fixes with those two. I have also used the expanding type (not recommended for this job!) Gorilla glue. It is very important to not use too much and to hold, tape, or clamp the pieces together until cured. You don't want glue on the gear.

Not completely free. Gaskets will cost $20-$30. To do it right and make it worth doing the shaft holes need to be welded shut, and then the CEL will have to be disabled.

LIke Tony said, the sensor will need to be pre-loaded, not the motor. Install the motor as usual, then put the sensor on at a 9 o'clock position and twist it to 12 'clock (or is it 12 to 3?..it's been awhile)......or TGV delete as mentioned. If you really get in a hurry just unplug all 4 sensors and live with the cel for a bit.

edit: actually 12 - 3 seems right......
