Lots of this. More like they don't want to play 'Whack a Mole' with the federal government.

"Off Road Use Only" holds no water. They've already sued the millions of dollars away from companies that tried to hide behind those words because according to the Clean Air Act, any production car tampered with violates it. That is really want the RPM Act is about now, saving actual race cars and this industry.

I think EGR/TGV deletes are pretty low on their to-do list
It's not different. The diesel guys just more visibly show their pollution. You can also see in the Rallisport Direct parent company's (name escapes me right now) that TGV's were specifically cited. I think they found them because "EGR delete" is an easy search as is any part called a "delete". And they also had a diesel shop in their portfolio. Doesn't take a genius.

Cobb would be wise to still sell their device to competitors and allow them to make products as well.

But I'm currently going through the cert process with a customer of mine. It is an expensive venture to pull off just with cost of dyno time (with an emissions bench) to do you calibration. Then to go to SEMA garage and buy the insanely priced "50 state legal" test guess and run all the testing....for essentially each model and model year car that the part is for. So a 2015 and 2018 WRX with FA20DIT are considered two different engines and require two separate certs/testing. The Forester with the FA20DIT would also require it's own testing. Even so anal that CVT vs 6MT would require two tests/certs.

Thankfully we're just doing it with a Huracan....we'll be arguing that we don't need to test an R8 to get certs as they're identical engines but I'm sure it'll fail....because they profit form the certs. Thanks CARB!!

yeah but where are you gonna find a tuner who will tune EGR / TGV delete anymore? From what I've heard no-one is touching this stuff right now (same with things like catless DPs)

Tactrix and half a clue. MAF is super easy to tune, there will be plenty to download

The law was written in 1970: No modifications allowed.

We have been getting away with a lot because the EPA was too busy elsewhere to give a crap.

Problem is, a lot of people with oil-burner trucks decided that is was funny to make their trucks blow as much soot into the air as possible. So people complained to their state regulators and to the EPA, enough that in 2018 the EPA started to focus on modified road vehicles.

Now for the people who say "elections have consequences": who was President in 1970 and 2018.

More realistically, who are the scumbags who wanted to ruin it for everyone by being complete a-holes and drawing attention to modifying vehicles for no better reason than increasing pollution, aka coal rollers?
THOSE people are your enemies. Elected officials follow the will of the people. And the people are sick of that s***.

No in person shop is going to risk the consequences of getting caught in violation of the new standards. Every one Cobb has a relationship within 250mi of me (south east WI) told me they will not even change wiper blades on a car without a cat. None would discuss EGR/TGV deletes beyond saying they're illegal now as well. There are provisions for track only cars, and of course for 20+ year old ones too, but documentation has to be shown for any claimed exemption. The TGV delete prohibition is the only I really object to, since they only operate for a tiny window at start up on a cold motor, and if not done right can actually harm efficiency because wide open they still restrict air flow.
