Default 02 wrx ej207 first start up rough idle

When i started up my ej207 swap after doing my timing belt it was idling very rough and popping every cycle basically. i spun the driver side top cam gear 2 times to the right then 2 times back trying to get it to line up but i think i might have messed up the timing. could it be related to AVCS? as i just installed the Iwire AVCS bulkhead wiring kit before this . i’ll try and attach a video of the engine starting up first time i’ve never done an engine swap but this is kind of a bummer.

keep in mind all timing marks were lined up when the engine went in but i spun the top driver side cam gear idk if that messes things up or not. i’m gonna dig into it again tomorrow just looking for some insight

Didn’t have this issue, I recently did my 207 swap and I used an jdm ecu. I didn’t have to change any timing components as I’m using jdm harness and ecu. I used the iwire kit to wire avcs to bulkhead harness. Are you using jdm or usdm ecu? Shouldn’t be an avcs issue, car runs perfectly fine even with avcs not working, you would only notice the power loss, not the car not running well

Did you get this worked out? I was considering doing this swap sometime in the future.
