Well, I BUILT, REPAIRED, REMOVED and INSTALLED a wide variety of aircraft engines and propeller systems for over 20 years and I also hold an A&P license and helped 40+ other people earn their A&P licenses. Not to mention, I was also a HC-130H Flight Engineer with more hours than you likely even have in the USAF.

I can tell you that how I do it is how I do it and is also as recommended by the lab.

This isn't exactly an aircraft engine costing millions.

I was simply providing input on wear metal analysis, nothing more nothing less. Not trying to have a dick measuring contest as I see that's what the carter clan is still about. Also prop aircraft don't do jack **** with oil analysis, so your experience there is null and void. Considering I have yet to hit 4 years I'm sure you did have many more hours in teh AF than I do, congrats? Again, not knowing your background and knowing what I do, I was simply providing input, you didn't have to be a douche. Glad that AKIC hasn't changed in years.

I do see how my first line may have came across douchey, that wasn't my intent.

Well, this right here sure tells me you are far from being a SME.

And yes, I did have to be a douche because that is the Carter Clan and that's how we are, remember? And, after all, it's you!

Thanks for your service and have a good day!

I'm going to send off a sample for analysis to Blackstone Labs on the next change.
What grade of castrol where you using? Cause the german castrol 0w30 is rated rather thick to the point of being damn near a 40 weight

I read that the 0W30 was thick.

I'm pretty sure I was using the 5W30 Made in the USA stuff.

But do you sample every 1000 miles, or only during your oil changes?

I've done uoa's at 3000 and then again at 6000 and the rotella has always stayed in grade

Good to know. I've done 6k, 9k, 10k & ~13k. (oil change intervals) And my UOA's always came back with the oil still maintaining grade. Haven't sent the latest Audi one in, and need to send the Corrado one in at next change.

BTW, was mostly being sarcastic regarding your sampling intervals.

FWIW Mr. Jet Mechanic, the majority of UOA's done on vehicles seem to be sampled during an oil change. From my understanding this is helpful as the "best" sample is taken mid-drain, eliminating any sediment oil on the bottom of the oil pan. UOA's are typically used to determine how well the oil has held up over the specified interval. This is usually based on a "virgin Oil Analysis", or by data sheets obtained from the oil manufacturer. While the first drain may not give any trends, it could notify you if there is abnormally high levels of certain minerals/metals in your oil. Subsequent UOA's will help establish a trend with your vehicle, and better highlight discrepancies should the metals or mineral makeup change significantly.

No worries Ben , I've got to do an oil change this week and will most likely be sending a sample in as well. The oil has got about 6500 miles on it so far and I've had about a quart to almost 2 quarts of make up in that time, I really need to get off my ass and install that catch can I have lol

For the autocrossers out there who have raced with the PCA group, you should know who Jim Mcneff is. Even if you don't, please keep him in your prayers. His wife Patti (long time continental employee) passed away from cancer this morning.

I'm horrible with names. If I saw a face, or knew what he drove I'd make the connection. Regardless, my condolences. I will keep him and his family in my prayers.

I'm bad with names too, but I believe he has a white 912/914, and is the guy with the curly-ish black/grey hair and a beard.
