I bought one (Nest Hub Max) in early October. It's been.. mostly fine? It works well as a Nest Doorbell viewer, and as a digital picture frame. I have mine on an aftermarket swivel base that allows me to tilt it forward (otherwise the screen and camera are pointing at the ceiling). We keep it tilted all the way forward, which is still a 5deg lean back.. but at least the Nest Cam cam can see across the room now.

The screen is still really small. Sitting at my island bar, it's basically useless to try to watch anything graphical on a 10" screen on the far counter. Since it doesn't have a battery, it's not like I can move it around. I can watch some YouTube videos while I wash dishes nearby.. but I could do that with my phone before.

The sound is pretty disappointing. We had a new Nest Mini in its place for a few months prior. I don't feel like it's much of an upgrade. The bass is very muddy for me, so I just keep it turned down.

The original UI is maddeningly limited, but all the reviews of the new UI update were very positive. I finally got it a few days ago.. and while it looks better and allows for more touch control, it runs awfully. The whole system lags, the screen stutters, it doesn't respond to the hand gestures ***129292;, and it lags so badly on 'Hey Google' I'm embarrassed for Google right now. After a couple reboots, reading about other people experiencing the same hot mess, and checking some settings, I did a factory reset. It is back to the original UI for now.

I would absolutely return it today if I was still within the window. I should have just bought a Lenovo from Costco a year ago.

So it's not a TV and the OS is worse than a TV.

I already forgot that it arrived. I guess I should go hook it up and give it a spin.

Thanks, you might have just talked me out of this I wanted the Hub Max for my kitchen counter and the regular-sized Hub to replace my alarm clock on my nightstand, but I just found out these don't have a USB port on them, which is a no-go for me as I need one for my watch's charging cable. My very basic digital alarm clock has one so I'm surprised a device like the Nest Hub/Max doesn't

I finally got around to playing with Stadia.

The streaming tech is great, lag is not really noticeable to a casual gamer like me. But there's only a handful of games that are free with the Pro subscription and the other titles are basically full console price. So it's like you're paying monthly to rent a console in the cloud that you still have to buy games for.

I'd much rather something like what Nvidia or Xbox does where the subscription includes a generous library of titles, even if there are a lot of older ones.

USB to charge your watch? Why can't you just use another cable or split it?

I have 2 of the hubs and they work great.

Still haven't received mine. I have Geforce Now with my Shield TV Pro and I dabbled with it a bit. I thought it was pretty solid. Just haven't had much time to get into it.

I'm rocking a Pixel 2 on VZ, don't plan on paying extra for "5G" at this point. Honestly, I'd keep my 2 if the battery weren't failing in <1 day of use. It gets used for web email, maps, Auto, and the camera, and I'm staying with a Pixel because of the camera. I know the 5 and 4a 5G have the extra UW array.

Kinda pissed that Verizon's 5/month deal on the 4a is for switchers only.
I ordered a 4a 5g this weekend. For the most part, it's similar enough to the 5 and with fi it's on sale for $350. Subtract the $100 for returning my 3xl and $250 total was a no-brainer. If I don't love it, a year is nothing and I'll upgrade to the 6 if it's a sizeable upgrade unlike the 5.

I should check this thread more often because the deal is dead. IDGAF about stadia but I'd have taken a free Chromecast Ultra.

Not that anyone else has this problem, but I was able to use Duo to make a voice call like I previously did with Hangouts. So long as I can call US landlines (phone numbers, not contacts with Duo installed), that will be a 1:1 replacement for Hangouts Dialer.

I've never used Duo once

I, along with most of my Android contacts, got fed up (and to be honest, confused by) Google's messaging schizophrenia and have been quite happy on WhatsApp for years now.

I guess I should give Duo a try

Legit my first time using it and totally agreed on their fragmented, constantly-deprecating messaging platforms. Outside of the US, WhatsApp is texting. So either get ****ed in the ass by Google or by Facebook. At least WhatsApp has been consistent for the 4 years I've been using it.

you'd want to find the variation of the above simple script that would move files with specific extensions.
This seems to be the common solution online but I cannot stress enough how insane "learn a new programming language that, by the way, doesn't natively run on windows" is as a "solution" to a problem.

This actually doesn't work because it strips the EXIF data so I'd just have a few thousand images from the same day.

I didn't want to learn a new programming language, so here's what I tried instead - batch download from google, 500 at a time, and then upload to icloud on my PC. Nope, doesn't work - downloading from google also strips a lot of the data from things that are not from the camera roll, which means all my screenshots, memes, etc all showed up as being on the same day, which gets cumbersome. Also .gifs wouldn't save properly, just as a single frame, and videos didn't keep their original resolution.

But here's what DID work:

Downloading the Google Photos app to the iPhone. And then manually saving every single image and video. This kept everything sorted by date and location. This took me a week, off and on. But it worked.

Anyone else having face unlock problems with a Pixel 4?

https://www.androidauthority.com/goo...o-fix-1176223/

This is basically my life now and the cool thing is when face unlock fails you basically have the restart the phone because swiping up to put in the code doesn't work (the screen disappears immediately.)

Eh, they already went back to the rear fingerprint reader, which I love on my 2. Was hoping to upgrade to a 4a or 5 this BF, deals are less than tempting though, so I feel like I can wait until the battery life gets truly unbearable.

The 4a 5g is $350 with Fi. I'm also glad that the rear fingerprint sensor is back. I much prefer it and the lack of it was a big reason I had no interest in the 4. I should get my 4a 5g today or tomorrow though so I'm looking forward to checking it out.

^ This. I'm rocking imp2.5's P2XL.

Besides the charging port being weird it's still doing an awesome job for my needs.

Any suggestions for a cheap tablet to use with a drone? Only requirement is that it has usb-c. Should I just get an amazon unit?

Might be tricky getting the drone control app installed on a Fire HD if it isn't in the Amazon marketplace. You might end up having to sideload it.

Or better yet, use Fire Toolbox to make it more Android-y, if you're comfortable with that sort of thing: https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd8...-v1-0-t3889604

(But confirm the above works on the device you're planning on buying before proceeding... I think it works on even the newest but not sure)

I haven't played with ROMs in many years. Was hoping for something I wouldn't have to mess with...used is perfectly fine too.
