Same issue with start/stop battery with les than 40K miles. Dealer quoted ridiculous price to swap out. Went to Costco, found similar spec battery for cheap. Problem fixed

Service advisor, “...oh that’s a special battery that was developed for the hybrid system, and you can do damage to your system using something else”.

Nope, simple battery with no fancy technology built into it, nothing magical, just designed/spec’d for different output. If Subaru thought they could get away with it, they would tell you the tires are “special” hybrid tires, hybrid windows, hybrid door handles, hybrid cabin filter, on and on.

Right, its not like some cars that have like a module on top of the batteries.
