2012 WRX EJ25 Rebuild - Parts List/Recommendations
Cylinder 3 is basically dead, very little compression. Not 100% sure of the issue (vales, piston, etc) But, I always want to build up my motor and now seems like a good time.
I will be doing all the work myself (with help from Subaru tech friends) and want your thoughts to make sure I'm headed in the correct direction with parts and compatibility. Goal is to daily along with some autocross, rallycross, and ice racing. Not looking to push the limits with power, but have it as reliable as it can for a built motor. I don't have a set power goal in mind. Existing Parts

this is basically everything I've got for my build I'm doing now. I found the stock ACL bearings were too tight on oil clearance and had to get the extra oil clearance bearings. otherwise, looks like you've got a good and thorough list.

Great list! What fuel injectors? My 13 rebuild is similar to yours.

Consider leaving extra room to run E85 (it’s addictive haha) hard to argue against ID1,300’s etc. I think most top brand injectors are good? Not positive just my guess!

I just finished rebuilding the EJ25 for my '09 WRX, stock with a new factory short block, and a few things which you may not be thinking about for replacement that you should while you have it apart.
* All engine hoses (water/pcv/vacuum) This will add something like $250 because there are a lot of hoses and they're mostly pre-molded, but you don't want to reuse old, hard hoses and risk them cracking out later * The turbo down pipe to mid pipe gasket isn't included in the OEM gasket kit, so you'll need to buy that separate. * All new timing pulleys, not just the tensioner. Cheap insurance, and being an interference engine, timing is critical! Also, order a tube of the Three Bond 1217G gasket maker and get a tube of anti sieze for the exhaust and turbo bolts/nuts. |
