Check online to see if others have this problem? Maybe board specific?

Max data transfer rate on those WD Blacks is only like 160~MB/s according to western digitals own specs. So that's that

Sucks about the ASrock motherboards.I have had decent luck with them. In fact I am typing this response on one with a z77 Extreme4. Never has an issue with it. Does anybody know if ASrock has owned up to the faulty cap or battery or whatever it is? I would suspect that they would want to release a new version of the affected boards ASAP.

Seems that the bad reviews have come in the last 3 months since I bought it. I remember looking and not seeing such bad reviews.

I'm glad AsRock got you up and running, Neek. I hope it doesn't bother you again.
Opinion needed on a push or a pull setup on a radiator. It seems most like to set up their rads in a pull set up in order to make cleaning a lot easier. However, a push setup is a lot simpler to install. For my install, it seems using the supplied hardware with my H105 is just a tad short to mount a pull setup. So before I buy separate hardware, would a push system be so bad? The PC will be on a desk and all intake fans will have filters. However, I will have some open grading. What say you? |

That would likely be more money than the $500 I'm looking at. I wonder if I can buy drives in bulk at a discount. |

If I remember correctly you're using FreeNAS and ZFS without ECC RAM right? What's the purpose, why not just run unRaid or Snapraid? You can expand a drive at a time and it's safer if you're not running ECC.

I know of unRaid, but I'm not sure why I ruled it out (or took it into consideration at all). Drobo-type drive expansion would be the goal. I'd even compact down to a Shuttle sized chassis. Maybe I should just buy a freaking Drobo. Or a QNAP TS-451. Jesus, that thing can run VMs. Last edited by DeusExMachina; 12-03-2014 at 11:28 AM. |

UnRaid is more turnkey (like FreeNAS), has those plugins, you can also run a VM in unRaid to run pretty much any application. The prebuilt NASes are too marked up IMO, good luck trying to transcode anything (you said you use Plex) without spending $1000 or more on a prebuilt. |

This guy is sounding pretty attractive: http://www.qnap.com/i/en/product/model.php?II=143 Advertises transcoding full HD on the fly. I must admit I don't really know much about transcoding...it just 'works' on my current build. There's been a couple deals recently on a Drobo 5N for $360. That, plus two 3TB drives is going to be about the same budget as 10 drives. It seems I'm going to be spending $500 any way I slice it. |

In order for "FULL HD" as they advertise, the software used must use intel quicksync, Plex doesn't, not aware of any that do. It may work for some stuff, but you'll likely have buffering issues with that box. Drobo is going to have the same issue, the cheaper ones have cheap processors, they are not built to transcode. |

Windows 8.1, EVGA GTX 760, video and audio via HDMI to my Denon x2000 receiver. How do I get the PC to output bitstream audio vs PCM, it outputs PCM atm.

Have you selected the nvidia audio device and enabled the bitstream options?

I'd like for stereo sources like Youtube to make use of my center speaker vs that channel being empty. Via bitstream my receiver can add audio to empty channels via Dolby PL.
Where could I find that setting? I may have missed it, but if I recall correctly the only device that was an option was my Denon receiver from the pull down list. |
