I remember CompUSA and Circuit City. Shame that they both died out. I like Best Buy as a store overall but admittedly don't look at PC stuff there all that much.

Nice. My buddy has a pre-built from MicroCenter (PowerSpec) and it has the 5700XT and he gets really good FPS (only on 1080p for now). The card runs hot tho. |

AMD has been releasing BIOS to address them partway. Some cards also had mounting screws that weren't torqued properly. If your model is affected, you can send it back to the manu. for a free fix.

I really like Warzone as it's the most polished Battle Royale game mode I've played. Played a little bit of Apex as well. |

My Ryzen 5 3600 and XFX Rx 5700 can run CODMW at max settings on my 4k TV with zero issues (no idea on actual FPS) and it can max the settings for Forza 7 and max FPS.

a lot of it comes down to the game/engine... doom reboot? you can run run it on a potato and hit +100fps
not to be a dick... but what do you pull for frame rate running something like GTA V w/ **** set to high at 4k? |

Maybe for an Intel owner. Euphoria with gta v is a galut. It prefers clocks to threads. rdr2 seems to be a much better version and port. I'm sure it helps being able to ignore ps3's and xbox 360's.
Both are no Crysis, etc. Euphoria is a great engine that seems to be more amazing each time. I can't help but wonder if it's getting cumbersome to deal with. May explain internal tension, turnover and, press. Despite the truckloads of money. Or maybe because of it... |

before i ramble on below, my whole question came down to 4k gaming... my TV is 4k, but i'm too lazy to move my pc out there. biggest thing would be to stretch my kbm across the living room to get there.
my whole thought process was "everyone has GTA V"... and was trying to equate x to y. doesn't work too well across different engines. i was just surprised that, at 4k, 340's 5700xt did adequate frame rate for the latest and greatest COD. it's been a while since i've ran one of those so i don't have a point of reference... the main thing, obviously, is that different engines require x,y,z. you can run the DOOM reboot on a potato and get ~300fps and it'll still look ****ing beautiful. GTAV? i'm running 2560x1080 and'll still see closer to 70fps running a 2080s w/ high clocks. |

GTA is really CPU heavy and favors high clockspeed. What CPU do you have tha tyou're getting 70FPS at 1080p?
Placed an order for a 3600, a mITX X570 motherboard and some RAM from Microcenter, only place that has any AM4 mITX motherboards in stock. Building a computer for my buddy for general computing and eventually we'll add a GPU for some gaming. |

GTA was cool in high school... Also, insert comment that the eyes can't see much past 60FPS in most situations, so to brag about FPS is dumb if you can max the texture etc settings and resolution. |

Rebuilt my systems in a wood frame
I wanted a new case, but didn't like what was out there.
I liked the idea of making my own case. I used oak plywood, cherry stain and 6 coats of spray polyurethane. This was just a pure rebuild of my current system. I skipped the 20XX series GPUs as RTX still seems half baked and stoopid expensive for the performance. I'm looking at the 30XX series though. I figured my 8700K at 5 GHz still has plenty of life left in her, so no need to upgrade there for a bit. Here is my Build Log at builds.gg: Scratch Built Open Case v2 - Update Design Specs: Asus Maximus X Formula 8700k O/C 5GHz nVidia 1080Ti FE 32 GB RAM 3 X 360 mm EKWB Radiators Let me know what you think and if you have questions. |

That case is a teh sexx0rz. Sadly I could never have an exposed rig like that as my cat would probably dismantle it in my sleep.
So I think I finally found a suitable solution for gaming on Wifi. To quickly recap, I moved into a new apartment a few months ago and the Google Fiber port is located on the opposite corner of the home than where my PC is set up. I don't want to run ethernet as I'd have to run it up and over three different doors unless I just run it across the hallway entrance which would look ugly and my cat would probably fidget with. So, wifi it is. I'm on a Google Fiber 500Mbps plan using their provided hardware. Originally when I moved in I bought a $50 Netgear USB wifi adapter. It worked ok but struggled to get more than 200Mbps down/up and I got crazy lag spikes which made gaming almost impossible. Then I got this TP-Link PCIe adapter, which was a bit better. I would get around 250Mbps down/up and while my ping was more stable, I still got small spikes. Not as bad as the USB dongle, but it was still annoying for FPS games like Overwatch. Yesterday I picked up this Asus RT-AX58U and oh boy, I think this is it. My ping is much more stable (albeit not any lower than it normally is, but no spikes more than maybe +10ms here and there, as opposed to getting 100ms spikes with the Google box) and down/up speeds are much faster as well. Still miss being hardwired in but I'm too lazy to deal with that in an apartment and this seems to be a good solution for now, so I'll live with it. |

Right now, all my computer stuff is in one room. Router, NAS, gaming PC. Once I move out, I might have to put the PC and router on different floors. Ill be looking at wifi or ethernet over coax. That till I can do a proper cat6 drop from third floor to basement. |

Wow, Jsunn that "case" is a work of art and totally rad - almost more like a display shelf? Any pics of it in the dark?
It's not overwhelming having it in your peripheral when trying to use the main screen? |

i should have been a little more clear... there are certain areas that consistently hit in the 70's... i see a good amount of range.
i'm running an ultrawide at 2560x1080, so it's about another 25% worth of pixels to push over 1080p. everything in-game is maxed out. running a 3800x@stock, with HWiNFO showing the cores sitting at ~4.3ghz while doing the canned GTA benchmark. only other thing i changed was my memory to the xmp profile in the bios. but in all honesty, coming from an eight year old [email protected].... it wasn't even close. worlds of difference, and i haven't even tried to OC it yet. probably won't. PBO seems to be working fine, with HW showing all eight cores hitting 4.5ghz for a good portion of time. |

Here is a pic in the dark. The LEDs aren't too bright as none of them are directly visible. They are all tucked behind or between things. |
