I guess glare isn't the right word. I had a similar setup for a while and I put the TV by a bright window to avoid glare, but the light coming in from the window was almost as bad, for me. you have no blinds or curtains to help, too, while I had light filtering blinds at least.

Marantz vp4001 projector
100" screen
Marantz Sr1007 AV receiver
Older carver 2 channel amps
Onix Rocket speakers
18" sub powered by a pro audio amplifier
Continental Seating
Clark Transducers in all seats, mainly used for gaming.

Room is around 19' by 14', all components in a rack built into the closet. I have since added blackout curtains, still haven't built the riser.

Crappy pic from realtor. The room is much much darker than it looks in that pic, the soffit should be darker but i don't feel like repainting it. The crown molding is held down a few inches from the ceiling and there is rope light in the tray.

Screenshot there is a DVD sitting on the screen in the bottom center for size perspective.

We do have blinds, but we rarely use them. The light coming in the windows is rarely a problem unless we're watching really dark movies during the day - then you'll see a drop in contrast. Usually turning the brightness up on the TV (we usually have it set to half its full power) is fine, but if it's really bright out we sometimes drop the blinds. The view right behind the TV is some dense trees, so it's not like we're staring at the sky or anything.

Some great setups in here... if I remember I'll post when I get home. Mine's fairly messy though.

Idjiit - Always love the photos of your place, great work on the built-in as well, looks awesome!

Thanks again, guys. We love our condo, fwiw. This is a great community!

Took some shots of the ghetto bias lighting setup - a couple of 100 watt equivalent CFLs connected to some ceramic fixtures mounted with l-brackets:

The nice thing is that the bias lighting is connected to a wall switch - so no fumbling behind the TV to shut it off!

Can you tell me why you have those lights? Is it to give contrast to the screen so that the blacks seem blacker?

Fundamentally it's to reduced eye strain. Having the light there gives your eye a better
"average" lighting condition so it doesn't have to work hard to balance things out. But yeah, beyond that the upshot is that perceived contrast, etc. within the image on the TV improves.

That is a great idea. I wasnt sure if it was one of those TV's that have a color "haze" behind it brodcasting what is on the screen when I first noticed the white glare behind the screen.

Good work I may try that one myself.

Why are you running the enterprise version? Just curious... I've been running BeyondTV for four years now. I'm on 4.8.1

How's that plasma treating you? I've been rocking my LCD proj for a while now, thinking of upgrading.
I'm running the 42" version (TH-42PZ700U) and it is fantastic, especially for the price. Its discontinued now so availability may be a problem.

A lot of them do look snazzy although their models are hit or miss. I'm not a big fan of the 705s.

Why is that? Too bright of a speaker for you?

I love the 3D sound they give off. Music wise they sound amazing.

The setup is almost complete now, with the addition of our ghetto-bohemian overhead lights...

View from th couch.

Just the new lights - "sexy time" mode:

My beloved Advent 4's have been replaced with Definitive Technology ProMonitor 800's, which... don't suck enough for me to keep the Advent 4's there hogging up space. The plus is that you don't really see the speakers at all amidst the books, DVDs, plants, etc. - so, mission accomplished. I'm also now using a ProCenter 1000, which is a huuuuuge difference over the Cambridge Soundworks center channel I had before. Dialog is much more clear now.
