Oil filter diameter for STi???
Hey folks. Wondering if anyone who has an STi (or svc manuals) could let me know what the diameter of the STi's filter is. There's a product out there that is an oil filter heat sink, basically a finned aluminum cylinder that attaches to the outside and lowers overall oil temperature by up to 30 degrees. They're only 30 bucks and I want to put one on, assuming I can figure out if an 80 or 100mm one will fit. Can anyone help? Thanks!

The car has an oil cooler that is probably going to make a much larger improvement in controlling oil temp than fins on the filter.
And, how do you know oil temp is even an issue? Did you measure it? Is your oil frothing? |

Well Glenn this will probably make you laugh. I haven't even taken delivery yet! Just something that caught my eye on a television program a week or two ago and thought I'd ask. I figured if it lowers oil temp at all for $30 it could only be good. While I'm sure oil temp. ISN'T an issue with the vehicle I for some reason thought lowered oil temps could only have a beneficial effect - is that accurate at all? I've had a deposit down since January, am expecting my black/silver in the next 2-3 weeks, and am just lining stuff up. (for instance, I already have sill plates, dead pedal cover, mud flaps, and am TRYING like h*ll to find floormats) And actually, in all my perusing of the various STi sites, I never saw that it has an oil cooler. Would you think the "heat sink" on the filter would have any add'l benefit or just be a waste? I appreciate your response and the posts I've read of yours on this forum - you seem to be a very good source of info. Thanks!
