Bigb_9_99,
The headlights are adjustable to four pre set height settings via that knob. From what I can tell the control affects both the high and low beam assemblies. Hope that helps... - Janq |

its ok i can take it. rip all u want. i guess i just dont understand why they have a adjustment on them ? what is the pros of having it. hids are bright enough already seems like another motorized thing to go wrong. is it to make up for no fog lights so u can aim the beam lower in front of u. cause they would make it point up too high.

From what I understand, HID lights are especially sensitive to being level, or not level I should say. Sometimes, passengers or stuff in the back will affect the headlight position and would need a slight adjustment.

Leveling is the reason.
Some cars have auto-leveling HID's, and maybe it was more weight efficient to just have a manual knob than a full on auto system. If you have a load of passengers, fuel, and stuff in the trunk I would imagine that can point the headlights up off the road. HIDS are beam/pattern specific in that they require a very fine adjustment to get the most value out of them. I have done some work for NHSTA and it has become apparent that with the increased popularity of said lights, mandatory auto/manual adjustement will be required very soon. As an aside, most of the HID kits out there are an obvious waste of money IMO. The optics for the HID system must be included in any kit for the real value add. Most people just want HID look and spend $300-$500 on kits that simply give you the bulb, ballast and control hardware. With no optice designed for that bulb and that car it is not worth it. -Jeff [email protected] -Jeff [email protected] |

I think that a self leveling feature is mandatory in Europe. Part of the point of adjusting them is to keep from blinding oncoming traffic more than you already will, too.
