Sti vs turboxs stg2?
i have a 2004 wrx, and i was thinking about getting a turboxs stg2 upgrade (UTEC, and turbo-back exhaust). On the website it says it is 309 hp. I was just wondering if anyone had this setup and how it compares to an sti. I know that an sti has such a different suspension and other need gadgets, but is it just as fast if not faster? My wrx doesn't seem as fast as everyone makes it out to be. I could sure use that kick in the pants feel. I was also thinking the cobb stg too route, but its only rated at 285 hp, and for the extra $400 that seems worth it for the turboxs. Thanks for the help, any input would be appreciated!

STI every time. I had a stage 2 WRX and it is not even close to the STI. The STI will crush it on the highway due to vastly superior gearing and the low torque will cause it to be faster in 90% of comparisons. Maybe from a drag launch it would it be close, with the STI still pulling that contest.
FYI: my best run in my stage2 WRX was 13.8 compared my STI of 13.3. WRX was run on a cool spring day while the STI was run in the summer heat. |

Focus 4, I have a late- 02 WRX with 41,000 miles on it. I have had Z cars and cars with 302, 350 and 400 cubic inch V8s. The motorcycle feel of the WRX was OK for a couple of months, but I took it to a UTEC Stage 2 (93+ octane) with a TXS TMIC plus a fine water misting system to get the flexible drivability I wanted out of the drivetrain. It makes 4th and 5th gears more useful too. The suspension, wheels and tires also needed to be improved since I drive on twisty and hilly roads.
There was no US Sti when I got my WRX. Ultimately my WRX cost as much as a stock Sti. If the Sti had been available in 02 I would have bought it rather than the WRX, and would probably have kept it stock. OK,.... maybe I would have gone to a stage 2 Sti anyway.... |
