Default 550 miles got my oil changed

I've taken a different approach to breakin. From 9 miles to 100 never took the car above 4000rpm. From 101-450 gradually increased rpm till about 6000 a. This process took me about 5 days. Now that i got my oil changed I am ready for higher rpms. My theory is that any debris and crap in the engine should be gone. What are peoples thoughts. I took this abbreviated breakin method to expedite the process. I asked to make sure that they used an STi filter. They claim to have. Where in the engine compartment is the filter located? I will post the part number of the oil filter later.

They used the Subaru filter as required. I guarantee the filter will not say "STi" on it.

WHen I build a new engine I start the engine and let it idle for 30 minutes and then change the oil. When I buy a new car, I drive it home and change the oil.

Then I change it again at 500 miles and at 1000 miles.

All of this with non-synthetic oil. I usually change to synthetic after 10,000 miles.

I changed my oil at around 28XX because it was looking a little dark after 3 auto-x's. I went ahead and cut the filter open and could only find some gasket material flash. I am sure that there was some material that I could not see. I've cut open 1st oil change filters in the past and found some bearing flash. I think that rebuilt motors require sooner oil changes because of all the excess gasket, bearing, and machining residue left inside. My oil filter did not show any indication of clogging so it could of have stayed in longer.

Nice timing as I just changed my oil a few hours ago myself

Under the car you have this big black cover thing. 5 bolts/screws and a few little plastic pushpin kinda holder things.

If you crawl underneath and look you will see you have the bolt on one side and the little oil filter on the other. The filter is black and is part number xxxxx80. The standard wrx is xxxx60. I believe all it says is subaru on it somewhere.

Lay it down, flip it, and reverse it. The stock STi filter is white. The stock WRX filter is black. The STi shares filters with the Forester XT.

Are you sure you don't have that backwards? The filter that was on my STi was black. Take a look here:http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/sho...?threadid=2119

The correct filter for any MY03 or MY04 turbo vehicle is an 080 (the smaller, 68mm filter).

The 060 is the standard 80mm filter.

All the 080 filters I've seen are black.

My first change is tonight at 2,500 - I have a track event this weekend in Gainsville. I'll change it again at 5,000.

Haven't decided if the switch to synthetic will be at 5,000 or 10,000. Once it's got synthetic in it, it will have 5,000 mile change intervals.

I plan to change all my STi fluids to synthetic - Mobile1 for engine, Redline for the rest - including the brake fluid.

I would keep it below 4000 for the first 1k as the manual suggests. It is not just about contaminants, there are surfaces that are still matting with each other. After 1k, then I would increase RPM gradualy - 5k, 6k, redline over a week or so.
