Default HVAC noise

My 2013 Impreza Sport is now making a tapping/grinding noise whenever I change the direction of the air flow. I have a single zone auto climate control.
The blower motor is fine and the cabin air filter is new.

This leads me to believe that the blend door actuator is going bad. The part is like $100 but does anyone know where it's located? Is it underneath the glovebox or inside the centre console? I hope it's not a PITA to change or cost an arm and a leg if I bring it to a dealer

I'm assuming it's the blend door actuator that's causing the noise. I could be wrong.

It's $100 according to the above link.

-that appears the actuator that you need
-bc that part is on outside of the heater/EVAP box(on R side low). likely could just screw new part in place. without taking dash and evap box out

im sure dealership will make you pay for the Removal/Installation of both dash/EVAP box for im sure 8hrs (even if they dont have to do the same)

i would def take a look on the left side of the passenger floor board b4 taking to shop
very possible with RI of center console/radio/HVAC controls/radio surround trim/glove box, you could contort your body to get to those 2 bolts that hold the actuator.

It is usually an actuator that has failed - not the temp or mode doors.

One of the actuators is above the gas pedal on the left side of the air box. The other is on the right side - accessible by pulling the glove box (like accessing the cabin filter). I forget which one is which - you can flip the glove box down and create the condition that makes the noise and listen to both sides - it will be real obvious which side it is. There are two screws that hold the actuator in - unplug the connector, remove the screws and the actuator slides right off the shaft.

Do you know the part # of the actuator? I think it's coming from the driver's side area.

Nope, can't do that with any real accuracy - there are two different HVAC systems on that model/year. You search with the VIN for the car to get the right part. PLUS You are in Canada - I can't look up parts for a Canadian VIN in the US parts system. Ran into that problem at the dealer trying to fix snowbird's cars driving down I-75 to Florida.
Go to the Canadian Subaru website and see if they have a parts system you can search like we have here in USA., or just call/visit the dealer parts department.
