Question on cooling mods for my 2020 STi build
Hi everyone,
I have a quick question on cooling mods, but first a bit of background on my power mods. After a plethora of research for my 2020 STi build, I have decided to let the boost max out around 20psi on the stock turbo with the stock bpv to gain a max of 350whp/wtq with the following mods: - COBB stage 3 flex fuel package (which includes the downpipe, intake, flex fuel kit, 1050x injectors, fuel pump, accessport, and much more...) minus the COBB exhaust because I love the Nameless exhaust sound! - COBB EBCS - IAG AOS - Nameless mid pipe (to connect my nameless axleback to the COBB downpipe) In addition to these mods, I was thinking of spending extra to purchase the following cooling mods: - Koyo radiator - Mishimoto oil cooler kit - Process West top mount intercooler (this is my biggest question over the other two because I’ve heard that with a stock turbo setup and with only about 20 psi max boost levels, there isn’t much gain and it actually can be a detriment to performance although cooling is better) Since I plan to track the car a few times a year hopefully starting next year (I daily drive the car the rest of the year), I was thinking that these cooling mods might be worth the extra money. So my question is would it be worth it to get these cooling mods and can I skip the Process West Top mount intercooler with my current build configuration?

So first question is why are you looking at cooling mods at your power level? Are you seeing high temp? Is it over heating? Is you oil shearing thin too much?
With stock turbo and close to stock power you will not need a oil cooler, the stock oil cooler is fine for now. The stock radiator at those powers is also fine, but wouldn't hurt to get one. People have been using stock radiator at 400whp with no issues until the plastic sides start coming apart. PW TMIC is a great item and it might not help much now, but it will later when you upgrade that turbo. So IMO i would pass on the oil cooler, maybe get the radiator if you have money to burn, and yes for PW. |

I agree it may not do much for gains but what could be worse? |

If you are so temperature conscious why not ditch the top mount for a fmic? Wouldn't have to worry about heat soak...
