No engine mods or tunes. Just axle back exhaust.

On the way home last night car started knocking or something really bad. Luckily I was very close to the dealership so I just pulled in and dropped it off. I'll find out tomorrow what's up with since they're closed today. ***128542;
Small update. So the engine is definitely done. It's under warranty so I'm lucky on that part. They found lots of metal in the oil. They didn't say what exactly happened yet. They're waiting on parts. They said there was oil so it's not a lack of oil issue. They are saying the block needs to be replaced. I'm not sure why this would have happened. My car is stock I don't beat on it like crazy, I drive to work and back 20 miles with some out of state drives every few months. It's fn cvt, I'd assume the cvt would go before the engine. This is super disappointing for a brand new car to happen this to. My old wrx lasted 14 years 200,000 miles with no issues. Feels bad man.

Is it just me or does it seem like an abnormally large amount of 15s are the ones with majority of the engine issues? I haven't seen a terrible amount of 16+

And yes I realize that these are still newer years and don't have the miles on them yet, but I am sure there are plenty of people who are putting quite a few miles on them

Model/Year: 2016 WRX Premium 6MT
Mileage: 27000 miles on the first, 30000 on the second (about 52000 miles on chasis.
Mods: intake, j pipe, 3" exhaust, ebc, tgv deletes, verticooler, chargepipe, bov, cobb flex fuel kit, Cobb Accessport with protune from snail performance.
About 310whp 330lbs on pump 91 and 360whp 380 lbs on a e55 blend. (Both motors)
Fuel: flex fuel
Oil: Motul 5w-40 on the first, Mobil 5w-30 on the second, OEM filter. Changed every 3000 miles.
Circumstances: Daily-driven with mostly highway miles. Every part was installed and tuned for, the only time the car was driven without a proper tune was with a base map sent by my tuner driving my car to the shop to get dynoed. On the first motor I was passing a car 2nd to 3rd pull then after passing the car I started to hear the knock, drove it home (about 2 miles from where it happened) spun a bearing. Sounds like you beat on the car and you're expecting a LOT more hp and tq from a STOCK motor. Plus perhaps questionable oil choices too.

I would disagree with the "questionable oil choices."

So if the car has been nothing but headaches with an OEM block is the plan to give yourself an aneurysm going the IAG stage 3 route?

I would recommend you invest in a quality air oil separator while getting the new engine. There is a lot more blow by with flex fuels which could be dumping oil into your intake ultimately lowering your octane and causing pre-detonation.

Have a Nice Day?

Hi! Been lurking for a while, this is my first post....

Model/Year : 2015 WRX Limited 6 speed
Mileage : 49,xxx
EM : OEM
Mods : Stock
Fuel : 93 Sunoco
Oil : Valvoline 5w30 that for turbo motors stuff
Circumstances : In 2nd gear, made a bending left turn into a street at about 2500-3000 rpms, easily accelerated maybe 15% throttle and poof, instant death, dash got really blinky and that was that. Couldn't find anything that night but there was a puddle of oil underneath. Sounded catastrophic.
Actual engine failure : Dealer says con rod snapped but hadn't disassembled motor yet. Already telling me I'll most likely be getting a new long block. Bought the car like 2 months ago. Had some part that controlled the variable valve system replaced a week in.... was burning up oil. Then a month ago the dash lights were going nuts and when i gave it throttle it went on the fritz. Subaru dealer found a spark plug electrode had broken or burnt off. They replaced the plugs. Now this. We've (Wife and I) wanted a bug eye back in the day. Due to kids and life just now got around to buying a used 2015. My wife wanted the car and the salesman wouldn't stop telling us how his friend owned it and took really good care of it... it was clean....

Default Engine failure at 24000 miles

While accelerating onto the freeway at 40 mph I blow a rod on my stock 2016 WRX. The rod was sticking out of the top of my engine. I am now learning that this is becoming a common thing for the 15-18 year models. I was completely shocked that something like that happened to a car that was only two years old. Has anyone heard anything about the lawsuits that have been popping up?

An old friend of mine who was a tech for his whole life for different manufactures always told me this: "a used subaru (or evo, or any "sports car" for that matter) is an abused subaru"

I really wanted a bug/blob eye wrx as my first car and he talked me out of it. Bought my 2015 brand new and its been reliable for me so far (76,000 miles with 70,000 of it tuned). Who knows what mods/maintenance/abuse previous owner(s) did to the car. And always remember, a salesman will tell you anything to make a sale.

Sorry to hear about the issues and now a blown motor. I hope you can get it all fixed and replaced under warranty. Then you'll know you have a fresh motor and you can maintain and drive it the way you want.

Interesting, that's about what i told the wife but she wanted it soooo here we are. After we bought it he still said about it being his friend's etc.... i don't listen to salespeople but she wanted the car. I was actually looking forward to some bolt ons and a tune after 60k.

Say SOA replaces my motor, is there a new type of warranty with said motor?

For one year maybe but not a full 5 year warranty.

Since my motor was rebuilt and not replaced, Subaru told me it was just a contiuation of my existing factory warranty.

It seems to me...and I'm completely and utterly a noob in the subject of mods...that once someone starts pushing 300 whp and above, they're beating the crap out of their engine. From what I've read, the connecting rods can't handle much more than 100-115 per. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Default Update on mine...

I have a 2015 WRX Base

Roughly 33,500 miles, give a little (possibly in the 33,600 range).
Try to get oil changed every 3,000 miles, though I'm a bit late on that, currently.
Low mileage, relatively speaking, because I usually choose to live close to where I work.

I can honestly say I haven't experienced any issues, yet (knock on wood). I am also considering doing some initial, low-risk mods. Should I go through with this, or wait until the warranty passes? Or is it worth it, in general? I keep seeing these posts about bearings/connecting rods failing, and it seems to be a building theme (or maybe I'm just paranoid).

I'm considering doing the Cobb AP plus their intake for the Stage 1 setup. Then maybe doing the Grimmspeed top-mounted intercooler.

I found out over last weekend that you should probably wait until warranty expires....
