My shifter came in yesterday, and I ordered new cv boots for my front and rear axles. I probably should change them while they are out, right?

Worked on getting the shifter in. The new one is in great shape. I took the cobb bushings off on the other one and put them in.

A couple of the holes didnt line up for the boot retainer. I had to enlarge one and drill a new one for it to fit the rubber guides.

Looks pretty decent installled IMHO

I slit the shifter boot to fit it over the reverse lockout. That would bother me so i ordered a new leather boot that will fit properly.

I also ordered a Killer B shift knob, and a six speed shifter pattern decal. I have a chrome shifter ball that will work, but it was always either scalding hot or ice cold. The new one is Delrin so it should be pretty nice feeling.

I also put in the correct drivers side seatbelt buckle and tensioner. I am waiting on my CV boots to do my axles, then ill be ready to put the tranny in.

New Killer B shifter knob came in today

All my cv boots came in today as well. I got them from Rock Auto. The front 04 wrx inner and outer, and the rear 04 sti inner and outer. I did a comparison side by side and they look like the correct boots. The Beck Arnley kit comes with grease, and new cinch straps.

I just got my new rear cv boots installed on the axles, so if my shifter bolt comes in today hopefully i can get the transmission installed.

On a side note, i was able to pull the rear axles in like 15 minutes yesterday. Its amazing how easy stuff is to get apart when you do it often enough.

Thanks raggs! All this whole time has been a lot of great experience, both good and bad. Loads of fun. As my boy and girl are watching and helping, hopefully they will grow to like it too.

Im still stuck on this tranny.

I put in the rear axles, changed the rear bottom control arm bushings, and put in the rear subframe lockdown bolts.

I started getting the tranny lined up and the bolts i have for the rear shifter bushing were too short. Its an aftermarket bushing i got with the tranny. It uses longer bolts i guess. I looked all through what i have and nothing worked. By the time i got to it, it was too late to go to the store.

I got the transmission in. I also hooked my hard lines up to the ABS solenoid, and some of the front wiring harness for the horns and air temp sensor.

The ABS solenoid is different for the 07 vs the 04 but I was able to get the lines to connect with a little coaxing.

07 in 04

The shifter seems to work OK. It is a little tight on the boot retaining ring. It may be the wrong shape. Ill look around for a used one.

I got my black leather remnants in off eBay, looks like plenty to do a shift boot or two, maybe even an ebrake boot. I found an old singer sewing machine real cheap on Craigslist. It should do the job well. The price for the sti shifter trim and console pieces are insanity, I'll just have to make what I got work. It will also be pretty low key to the casual observer since the trim gives it away.

As soon as I got the last bolt in the tranny crossmember, it started a torrential downpour. Fortunately my brother in law was there to grab the tools, but I got soaked from just sliding out from under the car and standing up. That is why I got no pics yet.

I put the pins in the front axles this evening. I also plugged in the transmission plugs. So far so good.

I had to order some front ABS sensors because the plugs are not the same as the 04 sensors that are presently installed.

The shifter works much better with the pitch stop mount attatched.

I was able to change my front brake lines over to some goodrich stainles ones.

I also had to clean up the threads on the rear brembo calipers. I will clean them up as best as possible, and rebuild them later after i get the car running and inspected.

I will change the rear lines, and clean up the front 4 pots as best as possible, then rebuild them later as well.

I will also have to decide what color to go with. The need refinnished after rebuilding them. I am currently thinking of switching to black instead of red.

Rear brake calipers and lines installed.

Rear sway bar mounts, and rear end links. Stock sway bars for now.

Had a talk with Subaru customer service today to get the key code for my new keys. If you need a key cut, and don't have the code, it's a real pain. It even costs money to have the dealer look it up. The first dealer wouldn't cut the blank I have because I didn't buy it there. The second dealer said they would do it but they need my title, vin, and drivers licence. With the key code all they need is the other key and vin to clone it.

I worked on getting the engine ready to install. I put on some group N motor mounts, the coolant crossover, the coolant and crank case breather lines, installed some deleted tgv housings, hooked up a bunch of hoses and sensors, and installed the intake manifold. I still need to install new spark plugs, put on the alternator, power steering pump and a/c compressor.

I also ordered some block of plates to delete the air pump. Its probably not a big deal but i will also bypass the throttle body coolant lines.

I have an old school Perrin turbo inlet laying around i plan to use. Hopefully it wont collapse. I also got an SPT intake/Filter to go with it.

I still need to get the flywheel off of my other engine and install it as well , along with the clutch disk and pressure plate.
