Default Bump for Sottozeros

Was reading the thread and see a lot of tire options but seems like the Pirelli Sottozero 3's have fallen out of favor a bit in the recommendations.

Just want to throw those out there again for the people looking for a performance winter tire. I just ordered my second set after three seasons of many ski trips and drives over the passes here in the Northwest - IE snow, ice, slush, wet snow, dry snow, deep snow, thin snow and everything in between.

The Pirellis have had great traction in all of the above but retain plenty of dry/wet grip/handling - the steering response is better than my old Conti DW's in fact. W/ Subaru AWD and low weight/CG in these cars I don't see any reason to go with a more aggressive snow tire unless you live above the snow line or in a place that sees regular freezing rain etc.

They stand up to a bit of hard driving as well but be aware that with the soft compound you risk damaging/smearing the siping if you really push it regularly (especially in warmer temps) - as is the case with all winter tires.

Glad to read this, as I just had these tires delivered. I wanted a performance winter tire- had Hankook iPikes before, but my climate was always plowed roads or slushee snow. They were too soft for those roads, I anticipate the Sottozeros will be perfect for minimal snow/slush/paved roads and cold temps.

New Pirelli P Zero Winter

Thinking about trying these out this winter in Colorado. No ratings yet, but they look like they have promise. https://m.tirerack.com/tires/tires.j...=WinterSection

The Pirelli's look like they are banking on deep snow traction on the outer part of the tire and normal pavement style driving on the inside. I would be curios to see how these preform, also if they come studded and whats the price point. I live in Vermont were Nokian's dominate our state for winter tires, used to run WRG3's year around with out issue

Per Tirerack, the P Zero Winter tires are not studdable. If they were it would be a $15 charge per tire. Mine came in the other day, so I look forward to testing them out in a couple of months.

PZero Winter seem to be performance winter tires.
No studs for them.

What wheels and tires are you guys running with RT fender flares? I am very very very close to pulling the trigger on installing RTs but I was looking at options for winters and like.. with the wheel size you need for them, there are literally no winter tire options.

Need help finding winter tires and wheels to fit. (2015 wrx)

edit: the height of the car can be adjusted potentially to fit.

Not sure that I understand your problem.
Does it mean that with flares you will have too much room?

What are the tire sizes you are looking for? What was OE size?

I recently got the Pirelli PZero Winters on Sport Edition 18x8 A10-2's for my 2020 STI from tire rack. Unfortunately, I'll never be able to try them out as I sold the car already.....

Trying to figure out how I can post in the classifieds as I am sure someone on here will make use of them.

Since youre new, you probably need to have a certain number of posts to post an ad. Check the forum rules.

West Coast runs from San Diego to Seattle.
You have also change of elevation from below sea level to quite high mountains.

You may have been anywhere in the USA with such spread of climates.

I don't have experience with the Yoko's, but the Nokians over the Michelins hands down. I ran Xi3 on my old Outback and Crosstrek and currently have the Hakkas on my newer outback. Good tires. Not too soft on dry and good grip on snow and ice. Good deep snow traction as well.

There are people who regret Hakka R3 in dry and wet.

Tyjamo87, what do you want from your winter tires?

I think 2 tires on your list are studless and one is performance winter.

Put: dry, wet, snow, ice, noise in order of importance and our suggestions may be better.

I've just obtained my first Subaru, '07 WRX wagon Limited. It will be the snow car, but would really like to have good performance on the dry and wet too, which leaves me leaning toward the Michelin. This winter I'll still be in W. WA where the only snow is up on the mountains, for snowboarding. But next winter I'll be in Montana and want a proper snow tire, which at this point it seems would be the Hakka. Thanks all!

If you want good wet and dry performance you will trade ice and some snow performance for them. There is no free luch or tire that does everything very good.

Some would argue that "proper winter tire" has studs and that would be Hakkapellitta 9 factory studed but they may be illegal depending on location.

I ordered X-ICE Snow from TR for our Model Y in August but they got back ordered until the end of time.

So, I got Pirelli P Zero Winter.

I can't wait to try them in snow. On dry roads they grip so much better than the stock A/S.
