AVCS questions and missfires
Is there supposed to be a difference in degrees between left and right on start up? At idle avcs in left reads 22 to 25 degrees and avcs in right reads 7 degrees. My car idles rough on start up and throws missfire codes on all 4 cylinders along with PFFE . No issue's otherwise. The car is definitely not missfiring all the time. I did change from a dual mass flywheel to a singlemass stock flywheel. that was close to 30k miles ago and the codes didn't start until a few weeks ago. Any ideas? Its a 06 forester xt by the way.

AVCS should match at all times within a degree or two

Ok i data logged on the way home one side stayed between 23-25 the other was between 7 and 9 no matter how much throttle was applied. Whats the next step or how do i check the avcs and ocv?

I had that problem with my jdm ecu, we changed the pulleys and it still persisted, come to find out it was the ecu that had the problem.. I would suggest if you can get another ecu first as it is alot easier to change than the pulley

Thanks for the help. The ecu swap on my car is quite challenging with it needing to flash for the immobilizer. Today I re-timed the car, tapped the AVCS gears with a rubber mallet, did an oil and filter change with disconnecting the battery. Didn’t really notice any slipped timing belt, though the drivers Intake cam may have been off by one tooth. Drove the car for about 5 min and voila, AVCS on both sides went down to zero at idle and increased with the throttle. |
