DIY: Bugeye HID Projector Retrofit (Morimoto Mini H1 4.1) - Minimal Modifications
Been procrastinating the retrofit after my initial failure with Morimoto mini projectors. Not my first rodeo, had a problem with the projector threads, had to return them.
Lightwerz took my damaged projectors back and worked out a deal for a different pair of projectors. I'm installing a D2H bulb projector now, its bigger than the mini. Polishing the lenses and installing clear film for rock chip and uv protection.

DIY: Bugeye HID Projector Retrofit (Morimoto Mini H1 4.1) - Minimal Modifications
Made a little bit of progress, ended up having to trim more material off the back of the reflector housing and cut the projector shroud. Last edited by D-Rodman; 07-26-2020 at 08:35 PM. |

Have everything together and functional but the driver side high beam, have to troubleshoot that. Also, I think I need to squeeze the lenses farther into the housing, the lenses seem to not have fully seated. We had lots of rain today and there are no leaks nor condensation. Alignment went well, beam pattern is excellent. Almost there. |

Liking the D2H. High beam fixed, unfortunately had to split the driver side headlight again in order to fix the issue. Sat both lenses fully. Project completed. Last edited by D-Rodman; 08-23-2020 at 03:30 AM. |

Ran into an issue today, my lights won’t turn off unless I disconnect the battery.
No idea as of yet what the issue is, yikes. Update: Unplugged drl plug under the hood and behind glove box, problem solved. Last edited by D-Rodman; 09-25-2020 at 12:56 AM. |

I recently did a retrofit with a Morimoto mini D2S 5.0 stage III kit. I couldn't decide between the mini H1 and the mini D2S, but after looking at the pictures Mr. Rodman posted above, I decided to go with the mini D2S. My original headlight housings were in pretty poor shape, so I picked up a new (used) set, which happened to be JDM (mainly because they were the nicest that I could find). I was quite surprised to discover the JDM lights use a H4 bulb (as compared to the 9007 bulbs the USDM lights use) With the H4 housings, the reflector buckets required no modifications to install the mini D2S, although I did have to file down the outside diameter of the lock ring slightly (the lock ring tool from Morimoto is pretty much required in this scenario). Unfortunately the H4 adapter ring that comes with the projectors didn't clock them properly, so I needed to file off the inner tab and level the projectors manually. Another advantage of the H4 housings is the rubber boots which seal the back of the housing has a smaller hole in it, which I easily enlarged to fit over the stem of the igniter, sealing the back of the housing after the retrofit. I used the Bullet shrouds, which required a small half moon to be cut out of the bottom in order to fit properly. All in all, a relatively simple mod with outstanding results!
