Default Running aftermarket turbo with a stock 04 WRX wastegate?

Hi all, a bit of an experimental question here, unsure as to if anyone will have a better answer than I've already deducted.

I've got on 04 WRX Wagon that's my daily. Turbo's starting to go out, stock TD04 with over 180k miles on it. Shocked it's held up this long. Anywho, I'm currently building a new motor to slot into the old girl, but that's sort of an ongoing side project that is going take a while before it's ready to go into the car. So if I'm going to be replacing the turbo I'm not putting in another TD04 just to be limited by it later on when I put in my forged block. As it would happen, I've got a stock 04 WRX wastegate actuator lying around, which I have already pressure tested and confirmed that it is a stock WRX wastegate. My question being, could I get an aftermarket turbo such as a TD05 or a VF34 or 39, put the stock WRX wastegate actuator on it that I have, therefor running the same boost, and not require a tune, then when I'm later on wanted to turn up the boost pressure, swap the aftermarket wastegate back on and get a protune?

I feel like the logic is sound here, given that the TD05, VF34 and 39 aren't that much bigger of a turbo, so if a similarly sized turbo has the same ~13psi wastegate, it should push a similar volume of air, and SHOULD be a negligible difference.

I don't know if my logic is entirely faulty here, but let me know! Should be a interesting discussion.

no, every turbo runs a different amount of air into the engine so 14 sppsi is not he same as 14 psi on a bigger turbo

I suggest significantly more research before modding your car, all those turbos actually flow significantly more than td04 and at different parts of the powerband, historically speaking EJ's are some of the least tolerant setups out there for mods without tunes, please keep that in mind. All the information you need on this swap is readily available on the forum.

This is a common swap and you will need supporting mods and tuning, you cannot just plop it on. (injectors, FP, up-pipe, tmic, you'll want a DP since ur gonna get a tune, not sure what other stuff you might need, but its been done countless times on here over the years). Additionally if you're still rocking a stock 04, it's a 16 year old car, make sure it's 100% tip top before considering mods, do any deffered maintenance, any worn hoses (vacuum lines, brake, power steering), look at everything rubber for wear, engine mounts, trans mounts, etc.
