Default EGR Unplug Verification

Hi Guys,

Disclaimer: Yes, I already did the research, but found no concrete evidence.

Background: I do have the EGR Delete Kit ready to install, but for the time being and until I have the actual time to do it, I was going to do the unplug for the moment.

Question#1: For unplugging the EGR, does the car have to be fully cold for a day or so before you do it? This is the part I haven't been able to get a 100% confirmed answer on.

Question#2: For those that did the delete, have you had to burp your coolant system of air pockets, or did you just leave it let the system sort it out on its own?

Coolant systems are generally the bane of my existence, and I detest working on them, always have and always will.

When doing the EGR delete the system will need to be burped.

Don't know about any unplug as I had the delete done prior to getting my car on the dyno.

Is it too late to tell you to skip the EGR delete and just do the unplug? I did the deletes, and I am not looking forward to ever having to go back to stock on that. It was the most annoying easy mod, and if you just need to unplug for the same results, I'd go that route if I were to do it all over again haha.

Use pinch pliers on the 2 coolant lines and don’t open the radiator cap and you will not need to burp the system..

Just add back the 4-6oz of coolant in the egr cooler..

Agree with the previous poster..it’s an easy mod..yet shockingly annoying

Pinch pliers can be had at harbor freight, Amazon, etc

Hope that helps

The car would need to be cold for unplugging or the valve may stay open.

LOL, I haven't done it yet, but it's going to be done soon.

The plan was to do the unplug for now until I move to a different apartment next year where I'll actually have a garage instead of being out in the elements. This way I'm not rushed, and then I can do the full delete at the time.

@WMTwrx15 - Yeah, I have an HF near me and picked up a set, it's just set aside since the JPipe (Cobb Catted/Resonated) Turbo Inlet, TGV Deletes and GS EBCS are priorities to install first.

@dogsfoot68 - Thank youuuuuuu!

Just do it all at once!

It legit takes about 20 min to do it and you will have it apart for tgv delete anyway

TBH it doesn't really matter, the EGR is held close by a captive spring that constantly puts pressure on the piston. It literally never opens. I've heard of people speculating that carbon will build up over the valve/piston if it never opens or some thing but the EGR is literally a Garbage Recycling pipe its going to get all the smut and carbon on it when it functions normally.

Just unplug the thing, return the EGR delete kit and get your money pack. Put some never-seize in the plug so it doesn't corrode for when you wanna return the car to stock. Trust me when you get bored of the car and wanna sell it you WILL wanna return it to stock. Don't fuss around with bleeding the coolant or any more hassle than you need to.

Remember you get a CEL if you unplug it, so make sure your tuner gives you a base tune to get you there.

I have done both EGR delete and unplugged. Gotten the same results. I would just unplug the EGR and call it a day.

I have some NO-OX from when I was in the Air Force that we used on connectors so they wouldn't corrode or anything like that, and I also have some heatshrink to prevent any water getting in and then some tie-wraps to secure it so it's not flopping around.

I build racecars.com or known as iBR has some nice harness plug caps for the egr and also the tgv. I picked up the egr cap for $13 bucks and they are a nice clean install for those doing the delete. They also give you a couple zip ties as well to tuck the harness up nice. Heres the link https://www.ibuildracecars.com/store/egr-plug-cap

I completely forgot about those plugs, I knew I remembered seeing IBR make the EGR, but didn't realize they made the TGV as well.
