You should be getting one faint beep about 3 or 4 seconds after starting the engine (haven't actually timed it yet). For my winter tires I have this new little game . . . can I get the car started, put the shift lever in neutral, get my seat belt fastened and VDC turned off, all before the beep happens.

And to think that all of us have to deal with this (or otherwise cope with it in some fashion) in large part because Ford underspecified their recommended inflation pressures for the Explorer SUV all those years ago.

For a new 2019 wrx, I purchased a wheel set with TPMS from TireRack, a Quickset and the VT06 and I can't get the TPMS light off.

1) Installed winter wheels
2) I flashed the new winter TPMS ID's to the car.
3) VT06 wake up tool says you hold it up to the valve and push the button and it will flash ... the light is solid for me, not blinking. I can't get it to blink under any circumstance.

Already spent $170 on ATEQ tools and $170 on sensors so I am getting a little peeved. What do I do next?

I'm pretty much in the same boat. Only I didn't do enough research, and thought I only needed a VT06 (but apparently only domestics auto-learn).

Are the Tire Rack sensors programmable? If so, I would think the VT36 and just clone the summer tires would make the most sense.

For @pcampbell specifically, did they provide you with the sensor IDs for the sensors they sold you? I don't think they did with mine, at least I have no idea how they would have delivered that information to me. Because with the IDs it would be cheaper, although more cumbersome, to just use the Quickset. But then I don't have the IDs for my summer set, so I'd still need a reader at some point.

This whole process seems much more cumbersome than it needs to be. Do I really need 2-3 single use tools just to do what should be a simple process?

Don't own the Quickset or the VT06, but you may want to check the following:

1) Are the winter TPMS by Schrader? From the ATEQ site (https://www.ateq-tpms.com/en-us/prod...tivation-tool/), it would appear that it is Schrader TPMS specific unit.

2) Was the car on when you tried to activate the sensors? If not, try and see if that works.

3) Find someone near you or stop by a tire place and see if they can activate the sensors.

4) Try contacting ATEQ Tech directly for assistance.

It is and it isn't. With TPMS being standard on today's cars, they are quickly becoming a regular tool for anyone that works on their own car, specially for those that swaps summer/winter tires regularly on their own. You do need to do your research and purchase the correct TPMS device and TPMS sensors. And that appears to be where the most TPMS issues are coming from, from buying their wheels/tires online instead of locally. Not that is a bad thing to buy from Tire Rack or other online stores, again, it is just that the buyer needs to be educated about the differences in TPMS sensors and TPMS systems before making the purchase.

Default Scan Tools Needed for TPMS Relearn/Reset 2019 WRX

Ok I think I got it now. I needed to use the vt06 with the car running. This is after flashing the winter tpms ID via Quickset.

The tool said the light was supposed to flash but it never did. It is one of those $1 Chinese tools you have no idea of it’s really doing anything.

All good for now. I’m not convinced this was worth $300 though. I could have just have the car inspected in the summer heh.

For that kind of money I'd have just planned on putting the summer tires back on long enough to get the inspection done, and that's assuming that the car would actually fail inspection if the TPMS lamp was lit.

Yeah in retrospect not sure it was worth it. I was trying to be proper! I don’t even know if it fails inspection but if it does I could just inspect during the summer. Anyway now I know. I guess I can use the same tool on my wife’s car.

I’m in the same boat. If the light on the VT06 doesn’t flash how do you know how long to hold down the button? Thanks

I turned the car on and when around to each wheel and held it down for like 30 seconds. The trick for me seemed to be that the car was running not off, and not just key on / engine off.

That did the trick! Thanks!

I thought the VT6 would be a little smarter. Oh well

So, I'm a little bit confused after reading this thread. My situation: Right now I only own 1 set of wheels, but I want to get a second set. Therefore, I have no second set of sensors. I'm looking for a tool that I can use when swapping between the sets of wheels to ensure that I don't get a TPMS warning on the dash.

Am I correct that either the TS508 or the VT36 will do this, but I'm not actually reprogramming the ECU I'm just reprogramming the ID in the sensors themselves? And the TS508 can only program Autel sensors?

You’ll need to find the old IDs and clone them. Honestly a tire shop may be the easiest way to do it, often not charging any more than the cost of the sensors alone to clone and setup the new ones. Then you don’t end up paying for equipment you don’t need.

Easiest way is to buy the 2nd set locally with programmable TPMS sensors. Have the tire shop clone them from your original set and be done with it. VT36 can only clone sensors by scanning the code then writing onto the new sensor, as opposed to the more expensive VT56 unit, I think it can also program by manually inputting in the codes. However, I think the VT36/VT56 units are being replaced. Not sure how the new units work but you can look into that on your own.

As for the Autel system, the more expensive unit can program universal sensors like the ATEQ units, but their less expensive units can only program Autel sensors. However, this is what I learned from 2 years ago and may no longer be the case. Again, you should contact them directly to verify this.

I was able to verify with ATEQ that my assumption was correct for their VT36 tooo.

I know that’s how the VT36 works because I have one. I was referring to its replacement, VT37.

I can also confirm the TS508 worked perfectly. I bought a set of 2018 STI wheels with sensors and used the TS508 to program to my 2015 wrx. My original sensors are on my TEs so when summer comes around it's a quick 5-10 minute process. Expensive tool just to swap wheels but I'm not a fan of dash lights or making a trip to a tire shop when I can do it myself.

PSA: Happens to be on the ATEQ website and apparently, they just made things easier now with the new Quickset X for those dealing with two different sets of TPMS. It is now an all-in-one unit.

Cool. I will say that ATEQ's QuicksetX GUI looks tremendously better than AUTEL's. My AUTEL TS508 is darn right confusing at times, especially if it has been awhile since using it. I would never have considered the prior Quickset due to all the fooling around needed. Their QuicksetX seems to fix that shortfall and also cost similar to TS508 without sensors. However it needs to do scans/relearns at every season change and does not seem to support sensor cloning. I prefer cloning since season wheel changes do not need the TPMS tool anymore.

No. TireRack's sensors themselves are not reprogrammable (i.e. program ID into sensor itself). They bury that fact pretty deep inside their website too, ask me how I have 4 of their sensors sitting in a box wasting $125. *Obviously you can use TPMS tools to program their sensor IDs into the car's TPMS module.

This is true, the TS508 will only program ID's to ATUEL's MX sensors. Current MX sensors are multi-MHz capable too.

Last I checked in Nov 2020, this is still the case.

I just picked one of these up from tirerack for 250. While it's a little more money than I wanted to spend, it is a very nice and quite easy to use tool.

I bought a set of wheels off of a neighbor and of course the TPMS light came on when I switched over to the new set. This took less than 5 minutes to read the sensors and update the ECU with the provided cable.

Tons of vehicles and has the ability to be updated in the future.

I get cloning would be best/easiest, but this does not take long, so I don't see a problem doing it again come spring time.

FYI Tirerack did have it the cheapest at the time I went looking.
