Front Right road noise - 09 STI
Hey all, Just had a set of new tires put on my 09 STI. The old ones were worn down pretty good and the front right tire had some pretty bad cupping creating a lot of road noise over the last few weeks which pushed me to get new shoes.
After having the new tires installed, I immediately went for a road test to feel those new tires. Most of the road noise went away, but I am still experiencing a a very slight noise and vibration from the same front right tire of the car. I think I can rule out the tires as they are brand new (about 30 miles on them at this point). I booked in an alignment for next week, hoping that will solve this, but I'd like to go into the appointment with a bit more knowledge. Just wondering if anyone else can suggest what else could possibly cause this. So, symptoms. A very slight noise conducive to the same kind of noise you get from a tire that has cupping....almost like the sound of driving on a tire that isn't inflated properly. Very slight vibration feel in the steering wheel. Noise gets a little bit louder at higher speeds. Thoughts. Had the wheel bearing replaced a year and a half ago. Kinda don't think that's the issue, but who knows? Could it be drivetrain related? If so, what would cause this kind of noise? Other areas to look at? Thanks for any positive insight!

The bearing could still be bad even if you had it replaced recently, have the shop check for play when they do your alignment.
They should also check any ball joints and tie rods for damage, along with the control arm bushings, sometimes those deteriorate and allow your alignment to change and you'll feel more vibration. This is all stuff they should be able to check for when you have your alignment done. Make sure to request a before/after printout of your specs. |
