IAG not offering machining services on used block halves anymore
Well, I was getting ready to send out my block to IAG for them to have it closed decked, pinned mains, fire locked, etc but they don't offer that service anymore. I know you can just buy their block halves but its about $1,700 more than I was planning on spending. Anyone else is this debacle? lol

If you have no local options, sure ship a block, but seems more complication than necessary.
Outfront Motorsports is driving distance to you and should be able to do whatever you need... |

I know Outfront Motorsports does great work and have been around for a long time but I love all of IAG's products/customer service/reputation and was really just trying to get all their stuff in house so that I wouldn't have problems down the road. It's more of a piece of mind thing. Thinking I should stop being a girl and just bite the bullet on their brand new built block halves.

To actually see the used/returned/warranty area in that spotless space versus the new assembly/CNC area is to understand WHY they decided to stop. THINK S P O T L E S S.

Yeah, be grateful they no longer offer a service you were wanting to pay them for, go to the vendor still offering what you want, don’t change what u want to suit them, that’s backwards.

I guarantee the reason they bailed on working on other people's blocks is because it was an endless nightmare of blocks having major issues, and then the customer being all bent out of shape that they wanted "x" dollars more to repair it or had to stop halfway through and still expected to be paid for the work done thus far. For all you know you'd get halfway through your job and find a major problem. Working on other people's material has trouble written all over it |

Guys, I understand the business stand point of it with the amount of headache they were facing with people blowing their stuff up and most likely blaming them. Just sucks you cant get the service anymore.

There are a lot of well known Subaru shops that offer machining services and can do closed decks.
There are also several options for closed decking, and then shops that can do the machine work. IAG has gone full blown manufacturer, versus just being a shop. Dealing with used cases isn't worth the headache and time ($$$) versus the throughput they have. |

As said, it all comes down to opportunity cost. Any used block coming in the door has the potential for issues; which slow progress and affect expectations. New is simple and efficient.

The ej case halves are pretty much disposable because of how thin they are, one can see why IAG would want to eliminate variables like warpage if they're going to put their name on the build.

IAG is incredibly overpriced for what you get, there are far better options IMO
