drivetrain and ecu. Unless the frs/brz trans can be mounted directly then really just ecu side of it. I haven't done much research but I wanted to do the same thing.

BRZ has higher compression and combines direct and port injection. I think there are more differences but the 2 I said are all I'm sure about.

Fa20D vs FA20F what's the difference
The BRZ engine will not bolt up to the WRX bellhousing.
Also, check out Element Tuning for some great tech info on the motors. |

IIRC quite a bit. heads and such are different, with the brz motor being the better one last i remember. but its been a couple years since I researched this so it could be different now. |

They are different blocks. Not swappable.
You'd run into issues with the heads, upper pan girdle, and many other things. |

The bell housing pattern is the same an FA20F and FA20D will bolt to the same transmissions. The only thing that can be swapped would be the heads with their matching timing covers. Everything else you have to get matching to the block. For a turbo BRZ owner like my self it doesn't make sense to do so without the willingness to machine the block to allow starter clearance. If the WRX owner wants a cheaper high compression motor its a lot more straight forward since the FA20D(BRZ engine) is the one used in all non turbo applications and has the starter mount on both sides. They still would need to swap heads and matching timing covers. Oil pan would have to match the block. So anything that the WRX pan has that the BRZ doesn't, you would need to modify.
DSport has a great article on building the block https://dsportmag.com/the-tech/educa...s-of-the-fa20/ Also this a great article as well. https://dsportmag.com/the-tech/tomei...a20-flat-four/ |
