Anyone Running Red Line 5W40?
Picked this up for my stock motor 2010 WRX. Anyone currently running this? If so what oil pressures are you seeing? Worried it might be too thick, especially for winter in Chicago.

Your oil weight bears no role in oil pressure.

Ron runs Walmart oil and doesn't care much about the oil he runs as long as it's cheap. Many other folks, myself included, like to run specific oil weights and brands to give us the best protection possible because oil is cheap insurance.
If you're worried about pressure, I would start measuring your oil pressure. You can get a standalone guage or hack it into the AP via the TGV or rear O2 IIRC. Edit: don't think you can add oil pressure. Last edited by K3rm1tth3fr0g; 01-16-2022 at 03:12 PM. |

That's what I've decided to do. Too cold to be installing a pressure gauge so will continue with Castrol Edge 0W40 for now and once I'm able to monitor pressures switch to Red Line. Hmm interesting about hacking into the AP. I know you can do that for a wideband but not oil pressure too. With the wideband there's a conversion that needs to be done to the readout values, so not sure how that'd work for a pressure gauge. Will look into it though, thanks for the tip! |

You'll be fine. Monitor oil temp and pressure if you want to be certain conditions are optimal before flogging.

I am on Redline 5W40 now, but far from winter weather.
But when I was looking up on it, a lot of people on a lot of threads over at BITOG had no problem recommending it for winter use. |
