BMW sells considerably more SUV's than cars now and the gap is widening every year. That's the focus not raw cars that will appease magazine reviewers, forum posters that won't buy them anyway, and the odd person that will actually track their BMW. The focus is big luxury vehicles because that's where the market is heading.
They're a business, they're free to make their cars drive like Toyotas if that's what sells. And we're free to call them out on it.

Then again, it's not like the competition is making raw driver's cars. I'd choose an Alfa Guilia, at least based on reviews. I haven't driven a BMW since the 2 series they had a the BMW autoX event a few years ago - and that was pretty fun to drive.

While I don't have any idea what arm-wrestling garbage trucks sound like, I have to agree - handling is great, but it's only one part of what makes a car desirable - and sound and torque are also a big part. The BRZ doesn't appeal to me personally, ditto Miatas, though it's great that they made it.

It’s the Cali special and what ends up on used car lots all over the country. It’s also part of the reason why the premium brands started offering entry level models and trims.

Yep. The BMW dealer in Berkley is even advertising a 2-year lease for a 320 at $139 a month. Don't how many people actually get these deals though.

I'd take a Miata over the Mustang GT. Top down days and the sound (while no V8 rumble) is very pleasing.

I haven't driven an ND yet, but my old NB sounded like a classic roadster with a nice warm bubbly stock exhaust note... the NC sounded OK as well.

Edit: stupid embedded media..

I own both, A NB Miata and a Mustang GT. I drive the Mustang 10X as the Miata. Didn't use to be that way, but the Mustang works better for everyday use.

Yeah, I don't miss the NB's lack of tilt/telescoping steering column or the windshield frame being at eye level... but the ND is supposed to be far better on adjustability and interior space.

You have to admit, if you didn't have the Mustang you'd drive the Miata more.

Very true. Heck at one time I had 3 Miatas. A Supercharged NA, a Spec Miata, and the NB.

I never thought I'd like the Mustang as much and picked it up a daily. It now my Go to car.
