Default Rubbing tires

When I load up the back of my wagon and hit dips or bumps in sweeping corners (like on/off ramps) I hear rubbing. I have Rota Tarmacs 17 x 7.5 with 48 offset and Goodyear F1 Gs-D3's in 225/45/17. I am 80% sure it's just in the rear fender wells. Sigh. I think I need a fender roll. I might be able to get away with just pulling off the rubber edge treatment, but if that isn't enough, my brand new tires will rub the metal lip instead of the rubber edging.

I searched for info on how to do a fender roll, but the most detailed suggestion seems to be "use a baseball bat". I checked out local shops, and the responses were either "we don't do that" or "We could do a custom fender and repaint all the affected work for about 1500.00. Thus, I am thrust, unwilling into the land of do-it-yourself.

Has anyone done this to their own wagon? Any tips/suggestions?

One of the auto-body techs I spoke to suggested wood cusions on the fender and the use of c-clamps to bend the fenders out while I heat the paint carefully to try to avoid paint cracking. I have taken a close look at the inside of the fender edge, and there is a lip to the metal that the rubber slides onto that I think will have to be kerfed every couple of inches to allow the fender to bend outward. If I can get the fender bent out a quarter of an inch without cracking the paint I'll be delighted.

Does anybody have any experience doing this themselves, or have any suggestions?

Sounds like the Tire Rack should buy 3 more rollers and start a new profit center...
