If you basically have Cobb do the swap for you there probably won't be any problems at all. They are competent at their work.

If you are doing the swap yourself there is a lot more than the engine and ecu that you will need.

The STi ECU will not plug into the 05 WRX harness.

Ya man you also need to sourse an Sti engine harness and the wrx usdm auto 4eat isn't going to hold up very well unless you baby it or have some tranny work done. Usdm 5spd with jdm 5speed or 6speed parts are strong. Or you can go with a usdm 6 speed (will need rear diff and dccd controls and sensors) or older version jdm 5speed Sti tranny.

Just curious why you would think the ej257 would be any different than the ej255 wrx with a 4eat?

To the OP: yes the 4eat will mate up with the sti motor no problem. Try pm'ing RiftsWRX here on nasioc. He did the swap.

You're screwed. It won't work. The sti ecu can't run an automatic. It'll bolt to the trans fine though.

Pm me if you decide to go with the 4eat I have a extra tranny computer and wiring to go that route. Also there is a sweet valve body mod that can be done to the 4eat.

the sti engine (i am assuming full sti longblock) will work fine with your stock 05 wrx ecu, harness, and 4eat. You probably will not be able to run the AVCS for the sti engine. If you want to consider using an sti ecu, you should have gone the direction of JDM.
JDM sti engine, JDM sti ecu + harness, may be able to work with your 4eat... but i don't think many people have tried this before.
I have done a similar build... have an ej257 built sb with sti cosworth heads on an 04 wrx with full ipt 4eat. Not currently running AVCS but i'm looking for options on how to make that work... not that i have to.
You may want to just save yourself the headache and do a hybrid build (i.e. sti shortblock with wrx heads). Then you won't have to worry about AVCS. That would probably work best with a 4eat. You would keep your stock wiring harness and ecu. No need for the STI one.

stock wrx 4eat tranny is suprisingly strong. Many people run 250-300whp off it. It has been known to handle and tolerate more power than a stock 5 speed.
