Good to see everyone (reg. drivers and constructors) scored points this year. Hoping the midfield teams can step up even more next season and look forward to seeing how the teams fare with all the driver changes.

Alfa (and sadly Bottas especially) really struggled at the end of the season, but managed to stay in front of Aston Martin as constructors.

Binotto resigns as Ferrari F1 team principal

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/b...ipal/10405914/

Following weeks of speculation about his future, Ferrari issued a statement on Tuesday confirming that it had accepted Binotto's decision to leave.

The team said Binotto would stay on board until December 31, and it hoped to have a replacement for him finalised in the new year.

Binotto said that he regretted having to leave the team, but felt that it was the best thing for the Maranello outfit.

"With the regret that this entails, I have decided to conclude my collaboration with Ferrari," he said.

"I am leaving a company that I love, which I have been part of for 28 years, with the serenity that comes from the conviction that I have made every effort to achieve the objectives set.

"I leave a united and growing team. A strong team, ready, I'm sure, to achieve the highest goals, to which I wish all the best for the future. I think it is right to take this step at this time as hard as this decision has been for me.

"I would like to thank all the people at the Gestione Sportiva who have shared this journey with me, made up of difficulties but also of great satisfaction."

Binotto's move comes at the end of a rollercoaster season where Ferrari enjoyed many highs and lows.

But while the squad emerged as Red Bull's closest challenger, a series of reliability problems and strategy errors prompted questions about whether or not Ferrari needed a shake-up of management.

Rumours about Binotto's future surfaced ahead of the season finale in Abu Dhabi, with Alfa Romeo team boss Fred Vasseur linked as a possible replacement.
This speculation was, however, swiftly shut down by the squad.

However, with it understood Binotto felt that he did not have the full support of Ferrari chairman John Elkann and CEO Benedetto Vigna after securing second place in the drivers' and constructors' championships, he offered his resignation – which was accepted.

Vigna expressed his thanks for the efforts that Binotto had made during his decades at Ferrari.

"I would like to thank Mattia for his many great contributions over 28 years with Ferrari and particularly for leading the team back to a position of competitiveness during this past year," he said.

"As a result, we are in a strong position to renew our challenge, above all for our amazing fans around the world, to win the ultimate prize in motorsport. Everyone here at the Scuderia and in the wider Ferrari community wishes Mattia well for the future."

What I know of the Honda saga, my gut wants to say Honda PUs for Andretti if it goes forward.

Well considering Haas has like 20 people in NC doing marketing and a few machinists. Then has the car side work done in the UK and then sits side-by-side with Ferrari for car design....it isn't very American anyway.

Just saying, do you realize, Williams was a dominant team in F1 in the past. It just takes good management, choosing the right people.

and your point is? McLaren was a dominant team too, or Renault, or Ferrari, or RedBull, or Mercedes. But in the next ten years neither a McLaren nor a Renault (Alpine) or a Ferrari will win a championship, let alone a Williams.

Any team can turn around in a short time, as anything is possible. All teams have their up and downs. I will agree, with the current cost cap, it may be more difficult.

Once there was a little car producer, he has spend a dollar or two in the F1, maybe you heard his name, it´s called Toyota...and he failed big, spend Billions and earned nothing.

And than, a few years ago, a little car producer thought it was a brilliant idea to develop an engine for the F1, maybe your heard of him too, Honda....spend Billions, lost McLaren, won Championships with RedBull, and will leave F1, again.

How many years is Ferrari losing Championships now?

And without RedBull Renault would be an even smaller note in the modern F1 history, agreed?

I don´t think that Audi buys Sauber and win immediatly Championships, not in the first year, not after three years, not after six years. They have to develop engine and chassis, and that will be their major problem.

And Andretti-Cadillac, with a Renault engine, will fight for the "goldene Ananas" as we say in Germany, something like your "dead rubber"

Yep, I remember Toyota's try, I seem to recall Honda being a power house back in the mid 1980's with Nigel Mansell, then even back in the 1960's Honda had a car.

IMO, it's all about having the right people in place. Which is all I'm saying.

I totally agree, it´s all about the right people. Build a team with Newey for aerodynamics, Binotto for engine, Wolff for team manager, hire one experienced driver (with at least two championships in his book) and a young gun, and your team will be successful in three to five years.

There have been some rumors of Hyundai looking for an entry as well. They are already running hybrid race powertrains in other series.
