Default Used Subaru prices: Up! Up! Up! That's the only direction they go

Anyone noticed how the vehicle for sale forum has become an endless stream of:

'bump .
bump.
bump.
friday bump.
bump.
buy my car bump.
bump.'

You go on half of those threads, you realize people are trying to sell their used cars for SUPER duper high prices.

What you don't see, are the 'SOLD!' posts and /thread.

All model years are being advertised too expensive. I find it especially crazy when you see a 2014 or 2015 car with 10-30k miles advertised for exactly the same as the truecar new prices.

This means, I can buy your messed up, dinged, half ass modded, tinted, molested car which you *somehow* managed to get 30k miles into in one year (how the hell?) OR I could walk into a local dealership right now and buy the 2016 version BRAND NEW for the same price you're asking.

Are people insane?

Shhhhhhhhh.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Everyone thinks their modded car is worth more than it is.

This is not new.

A LOT of cars get sold on the forum. I should know, I'm in charge of it.

They usually don't sell for their asking price, and they don't sell on the first day.

If you want a car, PM a reasonable offer to the seller.

bump. On this topic, thinking of selling the STI in the next month or two. Completely realistic. Just want to get it sold with the least amount of hassle possible.

Current debate:
1. Go back to stock, haggle with dealer and trade in.
2. Go back to stock, craigslist.
Probably not 3. Leave as-is (Stage 2+, E85) throw feelers on CL. Maybe one other site. (Not an FS, not ebay.)

I'd go with 1. Sell the parts separately if there's value in it. Selling a modded car to an idiot online just means you're going to hear from that idiot when he blows it up a few weeks later.

It warms my heart when I see a FIRM price thread.

Six months later...and $5k less...still for sale.

If someone sells, I delete all his "bump" posts. That puts them on page 25 or so.

If someone leaves their car for sale for 3 years, I close the thread. And yes....people do leave them on that long without changing prices and they argue with me when I close them up.

I've told people that if their car doesn't sell in 2 months, their price is too high. Period. It isn't because people on NASIOC don't have money.

If you find someone with who has had their f/s thread up for 3 years, feel free to report them. I'll happily close the thread.

Sometimes I get drunk and go in there and troll people.

The last time I did, I got some guy trying to sell his two year old, 40k mile Focus ST for more than they were going for new, offended to the point where he was leaving me threatening PMs.

I do actually go out of my way to compliment and bump people that have realistic prices though, so I'm equal opportunity.

I actually got points on one site because I posted that I thought the seller was asking a pretty fair price and I wish I had the monies, then wished him good luck with his sale.

I sold a stock, two owner 01 2.5RS sedan with (disclosed) lightly leaking head gaskets and something like 80k miles for $5k on the forum several years ago.

Guy was real nice, flew in with a one way ticket, picked him up drove to the DMV where we exchanged cash and signed over title.

He drove it back from CHS to outside of Chicago if I recall correctly. Hope its still a good car for him.

My favourite is:

'Just asking for what I need to pay off the loan'

Never mind you paid over MSRP, no money down and have still not even paid off the interest much less the principal or considered it's a highly depreciating asset. Meanwhile buyers can pick up new for under invoice.

Or

'Selling because I must get a brand new M5, car has a lien'
