Default Minecraft: The Warden

Tiny bit of backstory: Back in 2020 Mojang announced a major update to the game...one with a ton of additional new content and world generation changes. Well that turned out to be a bit too ambitious and that update has been broken into multiple pieces.

We got some serious world gen changes (an increase of 128 blocks), 3D biomes (they can exist in different layers), total re-do of ores, new mobs, new mechanics...all sorts of things.

But one of the most anticipated additions was The Warden. It's a new hostile mob that lives in the Deep Dark. There's been a handful of videos, tons of speculation, and lots of commentary.

Today Mojang released an experimental snapshot that has this mob (and some other associated things).

I've been playing this game, off and on, for ages...over 10 years now. And this new addition (granted it ain't the final version)...my first experience with the Warden was without a doubt the most scary, wild, intense, and WTF I've had in this game.

I play a ton of modded Minecraft and that is a blast and for entirely different reasons. But this was totally different.

It's been a long time since I felt like a little kid in a game...excited, nervous, lights out in the room and scared to make my character move

It's only an experimental release. It ain't even available on the launcher (gotta download this .zip file and use these instructions - these are from Mojang). But if it's gonna stay like this - atmospheric, intense, and dangerous (at least as much as blocky Minecraft can be) - then it's gonna be a hell of a thing.

I used to have a copy of the server that had Porn Island. I dug around my computer for ages trying to find it

There's been tons of cool additions to Minecraft since those days. Nothing was what I'd call monumental. Yeah, villagers are more complex. Yeah, there's evil villagers too. Sure, new biomes and mechanics and dolphins, llamas, polar bears, etc. That's all cool.

This Warden thing though. It's intense.

"It's just like this really strong mob they're really tall and they spawn in caves."

My 11 year old daughter's description of The Warden while doing homework at the table. lol

I remember the hype for the world gen changes, 3D biomes, and revamped mechanics. And The Warden...oh boy, the anticipation was off the charts! It's incredible how Minecraft continues to evolve with each update.

Yur face is a Warden.

...also, I hate it when the kids get that Minecraft Java Edition itch every few years and I have to remember how to admin it all again. At least the modpacks aren't *all* from malicious websites anymore.

They won't just go play on their cousins 10+ year old server online - noooo, gotta have control!

Yes, I know the Minecraft server thread is somewhere else.

Since this got bumped I figured it would be good to share this info. With Reddit being down (and it being my primary modded Minecraft news source) I wasn't aware of this nasty virus circulating around:

https://github.com/fractureiser-inve.../docs/users.md

I've got a modded server that's been up and running for a couple months and done lots of downloading of mod .jar files. After reading up on this I was quite concerned...but thankfully all scans showed no infections (both on my computer and the server).

Your experience reminds me of when I first encountered some of the more intense moments in Minecraft, like exploring deep caves or facing off against powerful mobs.

It's moments like those that really make you feel immersed in the game, like a true adventurer. By the way, speaking of immersive experiences, have you ever tried playing on Minecraft SMP servers? They're perfect for connecting with other players and sharing in the excitement of new updates and discoveries.

Wow, your experience with the new Minecraft update sounds absolutely thrilling! It's amazing how after all these years, the game still manages to surprise and excite us. Your description of encountering The Warden gave me goosebumps-it's like reliving those intense gaming moments from childhood. Speaking of surprises, have you ever stumbled upon cool Minecraft resources on https://minecraftforfreex.com? It's incredible how the Minecraft community keeps evolving.
