R.I.P. Larry king. From the sound of your voice I assume you enjoyed many cigarettes during your life. Cant believe you made it this long.

He figured he wasn't long for this world when his people announced he had Covid-19 over the Christmas break.

A broadcast legend, condolences to his 37 ex-wives

I just read a blurb that he gave up his 3 pack of Nat Shermans a day habit after having a quintuple bypass.

I knew he smoked but didn't realize he SMOKED

3 packs a day? Jesus! I was a regular 1 pack a day and the few days I'd smoke more (like 1.5) I was hating life the next day. I can't image smoking 3 packs a day as a standard.

3 packs a day just doesn't make sense to me, especially in today's world where you have to go outside to smoke. each cigarette itself is going to take about 5 minutes to suck down, or 12 an hour. just one pack of 20 cigarettes you're devoting an hour and 40 minutes just to cigarettes, 3 packs, that's 5 hours, just smoking. in today's climate, you gotta get out of the office, go to the designated area which is usually not right outside the door. tack on 5 minutes each way. 15 minutes a smoke while at the office. when I smoked, I'd have 2 cigarette breaks in the morning, then 2 in the afternoon, just because it was so hard to get out of the office.

in a world where you could be sitting at your office desk, and have one lit sitting in the ash tray, then when that one goes out, you light another one and put it in the ash tray, that makes sense.

maybe he had a clause with CNN that allowed him to smoke in his office because he was the King, but yeah, in today's environment, it takes a lot of work to smoke just 1 pack in a day.

I suspect that Phil Hartman's character on News Radio was modeled after Larry King. he'd be doing his radio show from the sound booth, and it would basically be a hot box of cigarette smoke.

Right. My dad retired in '96 and I recall as a kid he would come home from the office reeking of smoke.

As a child, I remember watching in awe as my grandma lit her next cigarette with the one she was finishing

She worked in a hospital, so I have no idea how she made it through a 12H shift.

... and she's still alive at 97!

RIP DB Cooper?

Quote:
One of the main suspects in the infamous unsolved*hijacking*of a flight from*Portland*to*Seattle*50 years ago carried out by the mysterious “DB Cooper” has died in California aged 94.
Sheridan Peterson, who passed away on 8 January according to memorial website Legacy.com, was thought to possibly be the “Dan Cooper” who hijacked Northwest Orient Flight 305 on Thanksgiving eve 1971.

my mother was a nurse for forty plus years and a smoker. she'd be fine on shift... but when she got home she'd smoke a pack in like two or three hours.
