Not yet. I have some other projects I need to finish before I can devote all my time to this project.

Ive always pondered just building a tube chassis based off the front and rear subframes. Then you can use pretty any aftermarket part. Or get crazy and use a tubular subframe as well.

Why would you not reverse the spool drive in the transmission so you can mount the engine in the rear I have seen a volkswagen bug done with a similar setup in Australia for the suspension how could you think struts for a 4000 ib car work for something quarter of its weight never mind the huge difference in lower center of gravity. Maybe look into a R1 which are all adjustable or just look into companies who sell coilovers. Very interested in the build, would not mind seeing some cad drawings

I like the idea

I've thought of doing this, but lack of funds, space, and motivation always conspire to stop me.

If you do do it the best way is using a 2wd conversion kit like the Saker and do mid engine RWD.

Hey all. This is going to happen but I have to finish my pre-runner BATLFOZ Forester thing before I start this. I have everything drawn up. All the parts picked. Budget calculated. Just gotta finish a couple other projects ahead of it.

The whole point was to make it AWD so make it more stable and more (for lack of a better word) versatile. Change the springs and the pushrod length and put some knobby tires and you can hit the dunes... I've re-designed a lot of this going from something cheaper and using off the shelf parts to just going all out and making most of it from scratch. I changed the suspension design to utilize the same lower arm, upper arm, and knuckle to work on all four corners so save fab time and the amount of jigs I'll need to make if I decide to go for re-production. I've taking a lot of time to simplify the design because with this type of car I believe less is more. Standard bearings, coilovers, hyme joints, and bolt sizes will make it go together a lot better and if i start racing it or sell a couple to those who do it will require less spare parts and tools to work on it. Price for the first one is going to be pretty steep but once the jig and I have the list of actual material and parts it will take to re-produce it should drop about 30-40% to make the next one. Also I will have more bugs fixed by then if I need to make revisions during the build process.

I can give you a lil math though

Bugatti Veyron has 1046hp at 4100 lbs
So it has about 523hp per ton power/ weight ratio

Subreal Atom will have 450hp at about 1100 lbs
So it should have a power/ weight ratio of about 816hp per ton

Basically it will be fast.... Really Fast....

Eventually when my wrist gets better I will finish my Forester and start on this when my Garage is free. I'll built a full roller with a jig to make a couple more and then hopefully sell the 2 extras so buy the donor parts. I have a blown STi longblock and a 5mt to use for fab. The rest will be made from scratch so... Don't give up on me.

Here is the current project I'm working on... But due to a broken wrist from a car accident I have to take the winter off to heal so I will be back on the Foz to finish it and start this...

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2507805

Once I get more time to sit down and take my drawings and get them into CAD with the suspension system I have already finished I will start posting again so we can discuss the project before I start throwing money at it. I really want to make something that works well and maybe make a couple more and sell em to help pay off the original project...

Johann

I was considering doing a lotus 7 with subaru parts but had a hard time figuring out how to get the engine in the front. Maybe the atom is a better idea.

Why would the engine be hard to get in?

I have found that my wrist is basically a piece of crap for finish the Batlfoz project so I parted out but a buddy and I are talking about a quick and easy buggy built using the coilovers suspension arms, and wheels and tires from the forster as a start. Just a fast non approved tube chassis and cheap parts to get it going for some fun at the dunes. I will link this thread to it if I start it but it won't be untill the spring if I even get going. I want to use it as a trial run for some ideas I have for the Subreal Atom to test and optimized certain ideas on how to build it so I figure if i can do something thats fast and doesn't require a lot of care I can at least look into the basics of doing some of the parts for real. Arms, knucles, chassis, welds, etc...

The matchbook frame me and my buddy are building is too narrow up front. I could get the engine in the frame but Id have the cylinder heads sticking out the sides.
