g30-660 noise
I've got a rotated G30-660, intake is pretty much a straight pipe with an elbow into the fender well with a 3" K&N filter.
Compressor cover is the standard G30 one, 3" inlet, 2" outlet. It makes an absolutely ear piercing whining noise at high idle, and light/medium load, even cruising @ 2k rpm in 6th on the freeway. I had a GT3076 before on this car and it only made noise when it got pretty spooled up, and even then it was different. I've had plenty of other turbo cars, with similar intake/filter setups and none made a noise this bad. I've sent a few videos to my reseller and they say the sound is normal with this style of compressor housing. Has anyone else with the G30-660 or any of the G30 series noticed a noise like this? for reference. Anyone have ideas on how to mitigate this noise if it is normal? I can hear it pretty distinctly in the cabin. Maybe if I went to a shorter intake the noise couldn't reverb as much?

I have a rotated g30-660 as well and you can definitely hear it whistling away, though I love the sound. What kind of power did you make on yours? Would love to see a build list and some graphs if you have it.

I think the only way to get rid of that noise us going to be through a resonator or I've seen a few people use a extra snorkel to quiet it down |

Comp cover was as seated as it can get, I think. The bolts were quite tight.
Anyone have thoughts on these scratches? https://i.rype.ca/s/pMWcdgKfoqXmoQk https://i.rype.ca/s/cZ8C6JMbE3TyLL5 https://i.rype.ca/s/irA6HgzFmSNT4qL Thanks. Last edited by Alistairh; 07-23-2022 at 04:51 PM. |

https://i.rype.ca/s/DtobDXmfFk57rLx https://i.rype.ca/s/4xPWCDLMRgXcQBE On this one you can see some heat discolouration on the outside diameter of the base of the comp wheel? https://i.rype.ca/s/ZgpB8mmtXmC6BRj I dunno. The leading edge on the outside of the fin tips aren't all the same. I have a feeling I'll be told my 1,300 km turbo ingested something and there's no warranty. |

Just for followup:
I replaced the factory hard line with the IAG braided line kit. literally any banjo bolt to -4AN adapter would have worked w/ my setup, and would have been much cheaper, but yeah. At the same time I also noticed the bolt for the boost reference on my external waste gate was loose. prrrrrrretty sure it was an oiling issue. between those two things the turbo is way quieter. |
