That looks fantastic, these coatings really do look best on darker colors imo.

Anyone live in the desert and find a good ceramic coating that lasts out here? Just painted my first car a few months ago and I think its time to ceramic coat it.

unlike waxes, heat shouldnt affect ceramic coatings much, if at all.

Works great I actually bought some cheap ceramic wax and you could put a camera up to the reflection and it would look like a non reflection

I have an appointment to get my car ceramic coated in eight days.... I'd love to tackle something like this myself but I am sure the learning curve is just steep enough I'd rather not try it on a brand-new car!

I have tins and bottles of Collinite 476s, 845 laying around as well as finish kare f1000p wax. Collinites are are easy to work with and don't stain trim white like other waxes. Two coats put on a week apart will easily last a car left outside for 6 months. I used to polish out all the scratchs and swirls on my cars when I had the time. Now I can live with a biannual polish on my cars (more time to play golf). All this carcare is a young persons game. Us old folks can live with a wax instead of a ceramic coating. My son and I applied the ck quartz (UK edition) to his car a few years back and I will admit it looks nice. Without adding anything more to it I think he got nearly 3 years out of it. But since he comes over to wash his car every other week, he's discovered the convenience of Collinite. By all means, if you have the time, ceramic coat. But if you don't, try some collinite 845.

How do you feel the collinite lasts in the bottle over time? In the heat it really separates and becomes a thin liquid. The concours de elegance tin does not act this way, but that one is really hard to remove. I do find it stains white though, so always leery of using it around trim. I have tried some of the newer graphene sprays after a full polish and get pretty good results, but not all winter like with the collinite.

Depends what products you are talking about. Some of the "professional" products are pure garbage (like ceramic pro). While many user products (Gyeon, Carpro) are great and long lasting as long as properly maintained and not abused. There are of course professional grade products on another level.

funny you mention ceramic pro. when i had a vw gti, i got it coated with ceramic pro, which was probably the biggest waste of money i've ever had the misfortune of spending in my life. because of that experience, i was turned off by ceramic coating and thought it was a scam, but took my WRX in for PPF and convinced myself to give it another shot by another detailer who used CarPro UK 3.0, which worked amazing. i was again a believer after that. i was thinking about using GTechniq this time around, and giving it a shot myself. however, i have close to no detailing experience and don't want to mess up my car lol..

GTechniq or the new Gyeon Mohs EVO are great coatings to learn with if you have no experience. If you want a great next level applicated, Carpro UK 3.0 with Carpro SiC on top is nothing short of amazing. As long as you take your time and have good lighting you won't mess up. But, if you do leave a high spot or to, a light polish like Reflect then reapply in that spot.

If you are a little worried to go full on ceramic coating you can always try something like Adams Graphene Ceramic Spray Coating. I've used it a few times now over a year. I've been very happy with it as it's easy to apply and has properties still after a year. Car is garaged though so outdoors your results may vary.

I've gone down the road of Collinite, which is great and lasts a while, but decided to try CarPro ceramic on my last car. It definitely wasn't difficult, but super time consuming and a bit of a pain on a darker car. I noticed a few areas where I didn't fully buff off the coating and it left stains. Got my WRX in May and tried Wolfgang Deep Gloss sealant and was extremely impressed with the results. Went on and buffed off as easily as the Collinite but added way more gloss. Said it's good for 6 months, so we'll see. I would definitely rather do this every 6 months than doing the CarPro with that tiny ass sponge.

I'm new to the forum but have been following the discussion on ceramic coating with great interest. I recently decided to apply a ceramic coating to my WRX and spent quite a bit of time researching the best products and methods. I thought I'd share my experience and what I learned in the process, hoping it might help others considering doing the same.

Firstly, preparation is key. I made sure to thoroughly wash and decontaminate the paint surface to remove any dirt, grime, or residues. This included a clay bar treatment to ensure the surface was as smooth as possible. Any imperfections not addressed before applying the coating will be sealed in, so I took my time with this step.

After the car was clean and dry, I applied the ceramic coating. I opted for a product that promised durability and ease of application, as I was doing this in my garage. The application process was straightforward but required patience and attention to detail. Working in small sections, I applied the coating with a microfiber applicator, ensuring even coverage and avoiding any high spots or streaking. The curing time varied by product, so I followed the manufacturer's instructions carefully.

The result was nothing short of amazing. The depth and gloss of the paint are incredible, and water just beads off the surface now. I've noticed that the car stays cleaner for longer, and when it does need a wash, it's much easier to clean.

For anyone considering ceramic coating their WRX, I highly recommend it. Not only does it protect your paint, but it also enhances the appearance of your vehicle significantly. Just remember to take your time with the preparation and application for the best results. Would love to hear any tips or experiences you all might have as well.

Has anyone done a high end professional ceramic coat? I've done various versions of the do at home ceramic coating but they all are meh at best. They look nice at first but even the higher end DiY coats don't last more than a year, and the cheap ones a couple months at best. I've been debating a ~$1500 professional ceramic coating that is supposed to last the life of the car but I'd hate to drop that kind of $ on it only to be disappointed.

I wouldn't put any stock into the "life of the car" coatings.

IMO and experience, it's dependent also on how you maintain it. I've had CSL/ExoV4 on my car for two years and it's held up amazing.
