I never hit more than a small bucket anymore. Well, unless it's been months since I really swung and, I wasn't going to hit whitey's.

It also helps that I don't mind leaving without feeling I've got everything buttoned down perfect.
Man I never practice. I might be pretty decent at this game if I actually dedicated time to practicing it. Every round is like a box of chocolates. I use my warm up to figure out which parts are of my game are the truffles that day and which ones are the cherry filled turds. Some days my swing will find every single fairway with a driver but my irons are missing both ways. Some days my irons are locked in but I'm banging a 3w off the tee all day.

I typically spend 45-60 minutes warming up before I play. The first 10-15 are just hitting under 100 yard wedge shots. Then it's 10 minutes with a 8i, a few swings a 5i and 6-10 swings with a driver or teed up 3w. I then go back to my wedges and hit short pitches just to the end of the teeing area (typically I pick some spots about 20 yards away and hit different styles of shots: normal pitches, bump and runs, flops... unless there's a short range close by)... I then take 2-3 8i swings again and go putt.

That's the extent of my 'practice' LOL. I will say, the older I get (I'm still only 34) the longer it takes for my body to feel comfortable and ready to go. I do a lot of stretching, mobility drills, functional strength training, etc. but the wear and tear of playing 50-75 rounds a year for the last 25 or so years is very real. I'm not sure my left knee and shoulder would hold up if I actually dedicated time to practicing

Not uncommon, once you start to see golf as a pro, who must make money. To survive and justify the time use. Kinda tails into my story and, reasons when I was asked if I wanted to go pro I said I don't think so. Kinda sucks to get older and realize you could have but, I am me.

Actually playing the game is less of a sport, at that point. So, it's kind of a school of thought, modesty thing. I'd rather enjoy my bad shots more and my good shots the most. Instead of seeing every bad shot as a lost dollar sign. The good ones as expected, etc.

I mean lots of people make the step from am to pro well but, it costs all of them, too.

Played on a simulator this week ... couldn’t help but try Bryson’s line on 6. Didn’t come close ... hah.

Played well otherwise ... and yes, playing on the sim is much easier than the real thing. If I had to contend with Sunday’s crazy fast greens and that 6 inch rough, I doubt I’d break 100 (and I played from the middle tees which cuts out maybe 700 yards from the tips the pros play from. Hah)

I hit the range Sat and Sun and played an exec. Getting the swing back nicely and less shanking with every session. Chipping has been great, so even when I come up short (which I do most of the time right now) I can get it close to save par. I just need to work on adding dynamic loft once I get my tempo dialed.

Another weekend of range time and finished with an exec yesterday. I had a new personal best round with no doubles and shot 7 over with a birdie on 18th. Despite the frustrations, it's nice knowing I can figure out the problem and learn how to correct it. I may get some lessons on how to get some more distance back if I don't see my numbers going up.

That's fantastic, congrats! I've really enjoyed watching your progress and journey.

I played 27 total over the weekend (18 Sat/9 Sunday). Terrible first 9, but 7 over for the next 18. And won some cash, so there's that. I'm still learning the distances on my new clubs, so that's been a challenge. Looking forward to getting out again for a few holes sometime this week hopefully.

Nice work man! We'll have to get out again soon now that the weather is more favorable. I think the last round we played was early March last year just before this whole covid thing hit the fan.

I finally got a round in with my FIL for his bday this past Saturday. I hadn't even touched my clubs since mid-December since I've been so busy with renovations & prepping the house for the baby coming soon. Hit about 20 balls at the range to warm up, no putting practice at all, and were called up to the first tee a little early. doubled the first few holes before making par on the 4th par 5, then a few more bogeys which was the tune for most of the day. did eat a triple on one hole, but I also got a sweet bird on the 7th par 5. kinda pulled my tee shot, smashed my 2i a little too far on the second shot and put me on the left rough with a huge maple in my path to the green. Decided to PW up and over for glory and the vision came though leaving me a 12 footer which I drained for the 4. of course I doubled the hole after, but such is golf.

Yeah man! Just hit me up and we can plan it. I am down to go back to Mile Square since it's up your way. Supposed to play somewhere around Santa Barbara in April since one of my brothers drove down from Morrow Bay a few weeks ago. Other than that, we could probably have my cousin/brother join us.

13 over on another exec today. This one is more challenging than the one I play most of the time, but still happy since it was only two bad holes where I chunked or took too much club. Super hyped on practicing and dialing things in off the tee since the short game keeps improving.

I shot 20 over today at the "long" exec. I was blading chips and burning edges so it wasn't super bad play off the tee. I could have done worse but the weather was just perfect so it was impossible to complain. 80 degrees and not a cloud in the sky with a cool breeze. I had a great tee shot with the 5 iron on the par 4 18th which gave me hope for future rounds. I'll probably look into a 6-pack of lessons in another month to try and tune things up and give me some direction.

Whoop whoop - took my son out for his 11th bday for his first 9 holes of golf ever. He got a 105 and had a blast.

Pretty good. Congrats, sounds like a great time.

I shot a 96 at ten. my first scored round. :\

But that was after lessons. Ahh the ways of golf.

He started to get the hang of it a little bit but a lesson would for sure help. It was also tough to give him any tips when he was goofing around with his buddy the whole time. Biggest thing for me was that he had a good time and for sure he did.

That's awesome. Father/son golf is the best. I miss playing with my Dad, and am hoping my son picks it back up as he gets older. He tries and enjoys it, but doesn't play much since being away at school the past couple of years. We are hoping to play more this summer when he's home.

I played Saturday, not particularly well, but had a blast. We did a 2 man 4 ball thing in my group. We were 3 down after 3 holes, 2 down after the front, but dominated the back and won the match 2 up. Chaching! $$

The match play this weekend was fun to watch mostly. Not great golf, but great competition. Wow that wind yesterday was incredibly difficult. I really want to play Austin CC now.

Played my first round of the year last Monday. Shot in the upper 80s and didn't have any birdies, but my bar was set very low (had only hit balls once since November). Apparently I developed a nice bad habit of basically not turning and throwing my hands at the ball...went to the range yesterday to start working that out, but didn't realize it was in the middle of a 30-40mph wind advisory. My swing is coming back together, and I was flushing 4 irons about 40 yards less than normal thanks to the head/side wind

1 more week until Masters week

Hi golf people-

I need to get a set of clubs for the wife. What’s my best bet if I’m looking for something around $500? She’s not going to notice or care about what the clubs are and is novice but I want her to get something that if she starts playing more she can enjoy and grow in to.

Am I best off looking at a new women’s set or go with used/piece a set together. Let’s say the clubs need to be $500 we can count the bag as extra. I’m in the Denver area so there are plenty of sets out there.

Not sure if you have local outlets but, per dollar. Used decent clubs are almost always better then new mysterious ones.

Unless you save a lot of $ and they get very little use.

Ladies Cleveland Launcher irons. They are basically a full set of hybrids.

Never thought I'd spend this much on irons but here we are. Picked up a set yesterday after hitting the i210s (none in stock, will be mid-july for custom order) and the P790 (didn't like the feel, none in stock).

https://mizunogolf.com/ca/golf-clubs...es/jpx921-sel/

I tried the JPX921 Hot Metals and was just crushing it, dead straight 7 Iron at 220y carry. The HM were very strong lofted with a 31deg 7 iron it was just too much. I was given the JPX921 SEL with a stiff shaft and it was perfect. Can't wait to hit the courses.

Couple of things.

I played Friday in 45 degree weather and 15-20mph winds, with 30mph gusts. My 85 was the best round I've played in a while, considering. My handicap has crept up to an 11.8 and sets up nicely for the season events.

You guys probably know I pull for him, so I am really happy for Jordan Spieth's win. Stellar final round yesterday and glad to see him close one out after being close a few times this season.

And most importantly.
IT'S MASTERS WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to dislike Jordan because he was so damn vanilla and sterile, and was much more in the Rory camp.

But the last few years seeing him grind / work through his game, seeing him build back to winning form, and I have to admit that I like him a lot more now.

Hoping it rubs off on Ricky now.

Shot a 90 yesterday after starting out with a triple and then a double on holes 1 and 2. My playing partners were only in it for 9 holes, so I had the back 9 solo and it was slow. 5 over on the back with the putting and short game getting hot made for a fun round.

I think I’m going to encourage my son to try for “golf every month of the year” since it’s possible here and will be fun to join him.

In news that should surprise no one, LA county released its final report on Tiger's crash.

He was traveling at 87mph in the moments prior to the crash. He also never touched the brakes but the accelerator was pressed to "99%" at the moment of impact. Oops
