The ESC system had tiering based on your handicap:

INDEX / MAX
0 - 9 / Double Bogey
10 - 19 / 7
20 - 29 / 8
30 - 39 / 9

Now, it's net double and the tiers are gone. In other words, if you're not getting a stroke on a par 3, your max will be 5. 1? 6. 2? 7. (Used to be 5/7/8/9). Look at that again. 5 then 7. Why is there a 2 shot gap between a 9 Index and a 10 Index? Some things were biased to keep handicaps artifically high, allowing sandbaggers to sandbag.

Pick up the ball when you get net double max and move on. (I know, depends on the game). But seriously... no one has any business shooting 7 on a par 3 when max is 5 (again, if you're not getting a stroke). If you can figure out Stableford, you'll get it. (I've been playing stableford for years every friday and once on the weekend). It's not hard once y ou get used to it. Problem is, many people don't know how to figure out strokes. If anyone wants to know, I can definitely help.

I see almost across the board, the handicaps will be a better representation of playing ability, and won't really be going up much at all due to the stroke cap.

I putted well, no three putts.
Were you fitted for the irons?

Let's do it. I have some wedding planning stuff and work stuff coming, but would love to play San Clemente again since it's cheap and pretty forgiving from the tees. I should be able to make it happen.

When I played Encinitas Ranch on Sunday, we teed off at 12:45 and finished at dusk. So either early or afternoon works for me.

I was down the Florida space coast for some work earlier in the week and was staying at my mothers house (south of Orlando) to help out for a few things in the weekend.

I finally brought down my extra set of clubs to leave at her place for when I visit (TM R1 w/Speeder 757X shaft, RBZ 3W/irons with a few Cally wedges) and snuck a round in at Celebration. I like the course. Was able to take a few chances and keep things in play for the most part. Ended up with a 90 because, my wedge play was horrible and I completely failed at managing the course playing to the right distances. (And not having played these irons for 3-4 years, I was a little off on my distances).

Anyways, had a good time with a guy from Philly that owns a gas station/service shop, another guy that was the retired police chief from some town/sity in Quebec, and then rounding out the foursome, was the guy from Brazil that the three of us were afraid to ask what he did for a living to be able to afford a house IN Celebration, and only stay there 10 days/year (probably rents it out).

Had some great drives, the guy from PA was a single digit player and it showed as he was 1 over at the turn, but blew up on the back.

Overall a good time and felt good being outside in 75* weather.

Yes and I’ve played well with them, my swing is just inconsistent.

I’m talking about hitting inches behind the ball and chunking / flubbing it. It’s setup or transition related.

Yes maybe less or more knee bend or stand closer or farther away from the ball or sell my clubs and go back to video games and staying inside.

I'm trying to do less video games and football watching, but the knee bend helped me with chunking. Now if I could just figure out how to never blade or thin my irons, I would be golden.

Thanks. I try to keep that in mind with the 100 other things, but I'm doing way better contacting the ball than I used to when I "started" back in March. I'm definitely more of a picker than a digger off the tee but not afraid to thump my short irons.

When I think "I suck or why am I doing this"", I just keep reminding myself of how bad an entire bucket or round of golf used to be. It also feels good when random playing partners tell me I am playing well which never used to happen.

You're officially a golfer then Johnny! I've been playing for 20yrs and I still think that during various times throughout a round.

Playing in a 2 man best ball tourney on Saturday. I think it's $500 to first so going to convince myself and my buddy not to have too much of a good time until after.

Did a little swinging in the sim yesterday and you (I) generally hit the ball better when you actually transfer weight back and forth instead of swinging with all arms.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0TB7yrlN9U

Who knew!

I generally like his videos.

Myself and 3 other guys are going to Myrtle Beach the end of February for a couple of days.

Playing True Blue and Caledonia day one then either Dunes Club or Tidewater (or maybe both) day 2, then home.

I can't wait!

Same, he's got very good tutorials.

I ordered some used Cleveland CBX wedges (50, 54 and 58 degree) to have better yardage gaps and bounce around the greens. I'm also have a bid in for a set of CBX Launcher irons (currently $230 for 5-PW in good cond.) on eBay. The gapping and similar shafts (both sets have Dynamic Gold 98 and 115) should help with consistency. After hitting the Pings and other clubs in the fitting, it seems like a good choice for the money.

johnnyb, Good luck with the new clubs, but honestly, you should get fitted for clubs, regardless of how good or poorly you think play. Have someone help you identify the equipment and shaft that best suits your swing, and THEN look for them. And I'll give you a hint... the head is the least important part other than looks. Shafts are a LOT more important to your game, as they transfer the load that you provide TO the head.

In other news, I have a team scramble tournament tonight at the local indoor golf place. We pick the course, same settings, and set putts to automatic. Each team has their own booth and lowest score wins.

Day 5 in the Dominican ... played Teeth of the Dog twice, Dye Fore and The Links once each. Another Teeth round tomorrow and a quick 9 on Saturday before heading for the airport.

This place is something special. I'll post a bunch of pics when I get back home next week.

I got fitted for irons last weekend. Luckily, I am standard length, standard lie and regular flex. The best feeling and most accurate club I tested was the Ping i210 (cast cavity backs) w/True Temper Dynamic Gold 105 R300. I liked how light and easy to swing they were but are $1000 new and I can't find them used in that custom configuration.

The Clevelands are also cast cavity backs w/True Temper Dynamic Gold DST 98 and get good reviews. I don't really care much about looks or brands and like my current irons looks more than the Clevelands but have felt like the current irons are too heavy and reviewers mention the light feel of these.

DG shaft comparison info page 4: https://www.clevelandgolf.com/on/dem...om-Catalog.pdf

I'm definitely excited for the wedges since they also get great reviews and my current wedges have little bounce. I don't like how my 55* sand wedge has a regular flex shaft and can feel the flex too much around the greens and on pitch shots.

I have Srixon z585s (forged CBs) and the stock shafts in those are Nippon Modus 3 105s. You should try to hit those somewhere.

There are always really nice used / demo sets on eBay.

The CBX and 585/565s are supposedly very similar with the same grooves and similar sole.

Cleveland is the parent company for Srixon.

Yep. The CBX Launcher is Cleveland's "re-entry" into irons, so they just about copy/pasta'd existing Srixons from what people have said.

My current set is forged with the cavity on every club, but only on the 5-7 have the "speed pocket" and forgiveness zone behind the face.
