Shot 83 yesterday with a quad, triple and double bogey at Encinitas Ranch. 44/39. Other than those three holes, it was my best round with 11 pars and one birdie. The rest were just bogeys and only lost one ball. My chipping and lag putting was really solid (minus a bladed chip that led to a triple) and I was making a lot of putts. I'm glad my friends were there to see it since I was thinking they probably don't believe me when I tell them I am playing in the 80's.

Awesome. It's really just a few misses going from 100 to 90. And just a couple more going from 90 to the 80s.

As I expected, near the end of the season, my GHIN is going down. Currently at 11.4 after a decent past couple weeks. And, I have a couple rounds in the 90s that are about to drop off after this weekend... and if I can just keep the ball in play, it'll go down even more.

I also had an 83 on Saturday, but ... BUT, should have been mid 70s I had quite a few shots land left of the green on some tight lies (public course where people drive their carts anywhere, so it was "flat grass", where a wedge wasn't working well (but couldn't just bump and run because of 10' of decent/lush grass around the greens that wasn't flat). Lost about 4-5 shots there, as I flubbed three of them, and sent 2 all the way across the greens. (Only 5 GIRs if that tells you anything). The way I look at Saturday now, where my game is at, for each missed GIR, that's a stroke lost as I had trouble converting. I was usually pin high, but off the green. Very much frustrating. Played same ball... a rare occurence.

Putting was good. I work to be 30 putts or less, and I was at 30.

Also shot a combined (2 9 hole rounds) 78 also, with just one double across the 18 holes (as I missed a short putt because of a pebble I didn't see). Always pick up the ball and mark it and check.

Finished middle of the pack in our club championship and while I would normally be fine with that, my opening round featured a 10 on a par 5 and a 6” missed putt for par that screwed my first day.

The 10 came on a ball put in a river followed by an idiotic second drive that went straight up in the air and maybe 100 yards up ... so that put me on tilt and I screwed up the approach(es) and bladed a chip into a bunker. All my fault. The next hole was a par 3 that I put within 15 feet ... putt was short by 6” and when I went to putt for par, I stupidly one handed it and it rimmed out. I put it in for bogie, walked off to the side and calmed myself down. Played the rest of the round with pars and bogies. Finished near the bottom.

On the second day it was raining on and off and I had the 4th best round of the day ... but with the disaster first day I was out of it before it even started.

Regardless ... a weekend of golf is still better than most other things so I’m ok with it. I was happy with the way I played otherwise so I can use that moving forward.

Blading a chip hurts my soul. It's like when you drop something into water, you know it's not coming back and you just feel. Both of my triple and quad bogeys were way of bladed chips that were below my feet.

Didn't play last week (except a range trip), but probably gonna play on Wed. That should lead in nicely to watching the US Open starting Thu.

I like Justin Thomas to win, and I think Tiger is gonna struggle to make the cut.

I agree, JT and DJ have to be the favorites at this point, and throw in Bryson too. Looking forward to watching it.

I played yesterday morning and shot 84 with 5 three putts mostly due to greens being aerated on Tuesday. Wet, bumpy sandy greens were a challenge! It was a beautiful morning and I was in the 3rd group out. 4 of us walked in about 3 hours 40 minutes.

Welp I didn't even slam it into the ground or anything...just 5 or so years of hitting a ton of balls

Also, saw this at the PGA Superstore today...I really want it

I enjoy EAL's Break 90 videos. This one with an intro and voice over from Brian Baumgartner aka Kevin from The Office.

And my driver shaft broke. Definitely had a defect, but dunno if Callaway will cover it or not.

I'm not good luck this week

Too much club head speed there Bryson!

JT 65, Reed 66 and Rory 67 today!

The USGA will NOT be happy.

USGA and the predicted weather the next 3 days will pay everyone back in spades.

Winged Foot looks awesome, though.

Edit - yeah, it'll play easiest today and tomorrow so they get through those rounds on time.

Callaway is very generous with their replacements ... I had a crack on my driver head and they sent me an Epic Flash and Mavrik driver. They said to cover the face with masking tape and hit a bunch of shots at the range. I had to send back the one I didn’t want (kept the Epic Flash ... they felt identical and orange is ugly ... hah)

The internet is littered in stories with how easy they are to deal with ... definitely give it a shot

I forgot about that, I should ask them about my rogue face that broke.

Yeah, I've had Callaway replace numerous Warbird 3 woods back when the stock shafts were crap. They were a delight to deal with.

So I didn't notice until I cleaned it but my driver head was cracked as well (bonded section of carbon fiber on the bottom). Turned it all in today to see what they'll do. Sounds likely to get a Mavrik replacement. Crossing all of my fingers.

What a difference a day makes at Winged Foot. Great round for Bryson though.

Back in the 90's today with a 47/48. I just wasn't driving as well as the last few weeks despite a lot of practice at my "fairway finder" drive. On the plus side, my long irons were very good and going farther than ever which led to a lot of extra strokes. I also made some good shots with the ball below my feet which has been hurting me and nice to see I am making better contact. Short game was meh with duffed chips (no blades at least) and many 3 putts.

I think I put in too much practice (probably hit 400 balls this week) since my neck is bugging me again. Time for a few days off and take it easier since my brother and cousin are coming to play Encinitas Ranch next Sunday. So very much looking forward to that round.

Undecided what to do with clubs going forward. I'm still hitting my clubs predominately towards the toe, which causes a very light draw. I'm 6'3" so I'm guessing they are too short? They are stock Ping Karstens I bought used 4 years ago now, so they must be getting to 10 years old. I think next spring I'll hunker down and pay for a proper complete fitting.

Yesterday was maybe the last round of the year, played very well and shot a 75. Mostly consistent and didn't make too many crazy mistakes. Drove a short 260y par 4 with 5w, landed 5ft from the hole, lipped out my putt for eagle. Overall I'm happy with the Karstens but I'm sure newer tech will help out, whatever I end up going with. Hard to find a fitter besides the big box stores here in Saskatchewan.

Titlist lists Saskatoon GC and Golf Town Saskatoon as fitters for their clubs. Ping lists Golf Town, Holiday Park, The Willows, Riverside, etc

You may just have to go to a proshop at a country club if you want to avoid the big box.
I think you could get some great data and a good starting point with the free fitting from GT.

An anticlimactic back 9 to finish the Open yesterday. Not surprised that Bryson won, but would have liked it to be a little tighter with they way they started and when they both eagled 9 I really thought it would be. Then Wolff **** the bed and DeChambeau was on cruise control.

I played 3 rounds Thurs-Sat and they got progressively worse. The last being a 90 at my B-I-L's course that is very tight and target golf. My tee ball was not cooperating and I was +8 on on just the par 5s. I bailed on another 18 yesterday and don't plan to play this week until maybe Friday. I need to take a little break from golf for a few days./

Yep, I just wasn't into the open with the field being who it was. Maybe it was the layout. Dunno. I watched a few hours but not as much as I thought I would.

It's odd how you can be super pumped up to play after practicing and feeling like you are on top of your game but then you get on the course and it has a completely different idea about how your round will go.

I find golf too mental for me to stress practice. I'd rather just play 9 than go do anything at the range. There's no first-tee nerves at the range. There's no penalties, no risk, nada.

Is there a PGA Tour stat for #of GIR per FIR? Like, if a guy his 12/15 FIR, how many of those 12 resulted in a GIR?
I feel like I saw a LOT of guys in the fairway off the tee yesterday, only to hit a bad shot into a bunker or the rough.

With lots of range practice, my first-tee nerves went away. Actually, lots of shots (mainly longer irons) don't phase me as much as they used to but there are still those holes where I can't seem to make par no matter how hard I try. I like to make sure I am keeping my swing tempo up to par and then work more on putting and chipping. I don't know, maybe the range is just a time killer at this point with Covid and all, but I still enjoy it.
