Spotted the new owner tonight (3rd after me). Car still running strong, all electrics work, no check engine lights, no faults he said. The body is starting to show its age but overall, everything still functional!

Default Swap gone wrong

I purchased a 2001 Impreza RS with a 2004 WRX swap already started. There is something wrong with the wiring, because the engine light is on, and says that the cylinders 1 and 3 misfire, then I'll get a code down the line saying cylinder 2 and 4 misfire. When I unplug the MAF sensor, the car runs better and doesn't bog down, where as when I have it plugged in, the car loses almost all power, no spool, and has a terrible misfire. I've replaced the MAF, IACV, Oil Breather cover on the right side valve cover, wastegate actuator, PCV, and I noticed I have a large amount of gas getting in the oil with the misfire and loss of power. I'm hoping this information can possibly make it so you can come up with some ideas of what I can look for.

I want to swap soon, I found an engine and trans for sale that I might pick up soon. This looks absolutely terrifying. I WANT to do the swap, but I also don't want to mess anything up horribly.

I've just completed the leg work of this swap on my own car but my injectors are only getting 6V rather than 12. Is this the result of a bad ground?

Sounds like you have more reading to do. You can swap other turbo model subaru's into your RS ie wrx, sti, and legacy gt's. Motor, trans, rear dif, matching axles, complete wire harness with ecu, iWire service if you need to merge wire harnesses, fuel pump regulator, and ALL ENGINE BAY MOTOR SENSORS is the majors that you will need. Good luck with that swap you should post a conversion thread for that when you are done.

The 2005 drivetrain you have will work just fine. Do you have just the drivetrain or the whole car? You'll need the rest of the stuff that nasiocjunkie mentioned as well.

Default 01 RS to 02 WRX Swap

I have been studying your conversion project that you had performed several years ago and I really appreciate the work you did!

I apologize in advance if I have missed some things on your forum that could answer my question below.

Background: I currently own a 2001 2.5RS 2 door manual and came upon a wrecked 2002 WRX automatic car (complete) with only cosmetic damage.

Question: I'm just about done taking out the entire harness from the WRX and about to begin removing the harness from the RS—any suggestions as to how to merge an automatic WRX wire harness to a manual RS harness?

I plan to use my current RS manual transmission with an upgraded clutch to bolt onto the WRX motor.

Finished doing a WRX conversion on my car. I say conversion and not swap because literally every single part that was on the WRX that could fit on the RS is on there now. This swap was done by my brother and I. At the time we were 23 and 21 respectively (shows that anyone can do a swap). This past January (2007) a guy my brother knew bought this rolled over WRX for a really good price. It was running and driving. Most of the stuff wrong was only cosmetic damage. Since the opportunity came up to do an engine swap I bought pretty much everything that I needed for the swap. Straight from the radiator to the exhaust and everything in between. I bought the full drive train, suspension, wiring and the front & rear seats. I documented every single step of the way from all of the mechanical to every wire I spliced needed to run the car. There are over 500+ pictures in this thread. The swap was not “difficult” at all. It was lengthy yes, but it wasn’t hard. For just the motor it took us about 2 ½ weeks INCLUDING the wiring. For the full drive train, suspension, and many extras it took about 5 weeks from the time I drove my RS powered RS into the shop, to the time I drove my WRX powered RS out of the shop (be it with no hood but that’s not the point). The pictures aren’t saved in order on my Photobucket account so if I’m talking about one thing in a picture and then jump to something else that’s why. Also as a warning this thread is mainly pictures with a brief description of the part being installed or the point I want to get across with the picture. The longest paragraph is this one and the wiring paragraph.

Subaru Stars 2002 WRX Wiring Harness merge with 2001 Outback

Has anyone had any experience merging a 2002 WRX harness with a 2001 Outback harness? Electrical systems in cars confuse the f*** outta me so if there's a step-by-step noob guide to doing this it would make my wet-dreams of Outback WRX come true.

Sharpie218, do you have an Impreza Outback or Legacy Outback? If Impreza based it'll be near identical. If Legacy based then don't do it.

I am considering the exact same swap. I have a 1999 RS coupe and a 2002 WRX wagon that we would use for the swap. I need to get a copy of the 1999 RS wiring diagram, but could not find it anywhere in the thread. Can anyone help?
