What about an older STi motor (EJ20K or G) into my 95 L?

I choose to put the whole wiring into my 95L no issues, all that came in STI work in the swap including airbags. Just like someone mention lots of trimming to make it fit right. If you change whole drivetrain and dash, tank, abs, dccd... it made more sense to swap the whole wiring.
If you only swap motor merge is the way.

i think its def possible, its just that some people dont want to go through the hassle of searching for parts like the front, bulkhead, engine harness, ecu..etc. its not like those parts for a specific year are always on sale.

On the other hand, i have an 02 2.5rs and i did a usdm wrx swap. it took some time but i found all the parts to do a direct swap/ plug and play. it was pretty easy.

patience lol

almost as easy as plug n play. thats exactly what i did. V4 STi into 95L sedan. it's really is easy. with the newer style heater controls and HVAC(98+), it's literally plugging everything back in after minor twisting/tweaking of the harness to fit in it's original routing spot. that and a hydr. pedal box is most everything you'll need!

I chose to swap the whole harness except roof and door cords. For me, I was going from 16bit-32bit ecu, non-dbw to dbw, non-avcs to avcs. And besides some minor splicing for the headlights, etc and pin re-alignment for the wiper motor it was straight forward and simple.

I also have the serenity knowing it's all factory, Something under my dash somewhere is probably not going to short out, on me or anyone else, someday due to my work.

I've seen some great merges and some really bad ones.

Mine fired up the first time I tried it.

That's my .02
Ok so I have a 2009 impreza 2.5i sedan manual transmission. It got a rod knock. The 2.5i motor was 1800. I didn't want to spend that much so I opted out to a 2.0l. Non variable valve time. Was told its be a direct fit just had to swap intake and exhaust manifolds. I would have a check engine but my car would run.
So I did the swap as told to. Car starts right up, BUT it idles sporadically and reclines at 4k. So I was thinking what if I swap the ecu for a 2.0l manual ecu,but not sure if my 2009 engine harness will fit into a 2.0l m/t ecu??

I can't agree with this enough.
