timeslips, questions, custom intake... rrrggggg
ok.. I just posted yesterday and I thank everyone that responded . I have a few questions though.. I'll have like 4-500 dollars in about 1 week... what should I buy to get the most MPH for $? I ran a 15.8 and a 15.7 with a 1.9 60' on the last one . I have NO mods at all... just a stripped interior(except radio + AC) should I opt for pulleys or cams??? any ideas? the 15.7 was with NO filter, box, silencer.. ANYTHING. I thought there would be more difference. anyway.. how does this sound for an intake.. amsoil filter, 2 and 1/4 inch hose down the passenger side fender out the hole under the parking light (ram air) think it would be nice..? we built a box for the hole we just need the pipes (getting soon I hope) any ideas for that??? any hp difference.. I don't even know what I"m asking.. I just want a N/A 14 second car for now... help please!!!!
thanx, spunky

If you already have a box in the fenderwell why don't you make a cold air box and have a cone filter setup near the hole? Keep the stock intake plenum to keep the lowend (that's what everyone says). And I think so far the best bang for the buck would be cams. Bolt on stuff isn't going to get you down into the 14s if that's what you're shooting for. Low 15s yea, but 14s I highly doubt.

R/T-.771 60' 2.047 330-6.439 1/8-10.057 MPH-68.43 1000-13.196 my 2nd run I missed 4th gear and the RPM's went to 8 grand... but with the #'s I ASSUMED a 15.7.. here is that slip (would it have maybe been a 15.6?? PLEASE say yes R/T-.578 60'-1.988 330-6.324 1/8-9.904 MPH-69.35 1000-13.4 and then a 16.5 @75 b/c of 4th.. would that have been a 15.6 maybe??? also is that pretty quick?? the 2nd run was with nothing on the intake and it was about 70 degress outside (florida) thanks... sorry about the 4th gear thing.. I'm assuming things I know NOTHINg about.. I"m sorry. thanks everyone. |

no I didn't. I lied that I ran a 15.7..... I just estimated it since I missed 4th gear.. and yes my RPM's DID jump to 8 grand... I know the limiter is at 6500 b/c 1st gear bounces there sometimes... but when I 1st got the car this happened on a stop light race. anybody else know what I mean about 8000 RPM?

Spunky, buy one of these cold air intakes and save yourself the trouble of making one...

Impreza Rider, you can easily mechincally overrev your engine, that no built in rev limiter is going to save you from.

Save yourself more money and cut a hole in the stock air box's rear piece near the top. You get ambient air and a cool sound from the scoop :}. You just have to wash it by hand or be careful in the car wash...and don't drive at 40 through a puddle.
I ran at the drag strip and I could feel the engine running lean, even at 6000ft elevation. I hope a JC torque chip will fix it. It needs more fuel. Gary |

Impreza Rider,
If your running flat out in 3rd gear miss 4th and land it in 2nd what do you think will happen?? No rev limiter can stop that one! I bet it makes a nasty sound. DonA |

A friend of mine was test driving a new celica gts and did the redline 3rd to 2nd gear thing and I saw the tach hit about 9000 and the motor did not run right after that. I think it was valvetrain damage.

With that info, I would say you would have ran a 15.5 1320. I ran a 15.6 with a 1/8th mile time of 9.997. I bet if I removed the intake like you I would run much lower, but thats only for full blown draggers not my sweet RS.
