web hosting question
Is 2GB storage/6GB transfer for $20 a month a good deal? Just wondering...

That's A LOT of storage space, enough to run a small e-commerce store (since web pictures, when optimized correctly, is only a few kb).
Try... http://www.doteasy.com Free hosting, no banners and allows domain forwarding (so you can link pictures, unlike geocities). The catch is you need to pay $18 to register a domain name with them each year (you'll need to do that anyway, cheaper at this site). If you already have a domain name registered, it costs $35 to transfer it over. I don't make any money outta this, just FYI. Henry http://kapsuleintime.com |

No, what I mean is- is that good? I'm not looking to find a webhost, but I own a web design business and we will be offering plans soon.
Probably something like 10$/mo for 1gb/3gb transfer and 20$/mo for 2gb/6gb transfer. We are trying to be extremly competitive. |

Oops... my bad...
well, as far as pricing goes, it sounds good. But I think the most important aspect of webhosting as to be 24/7 support - LIVE. I had some issues with reaching ANY person with http://www.1dollarhosting.com and that really upsets me, because my website was down for the last 25 days. Good luck. |

my webhost offers 6gb month / unlimited transfer for $10/mo, and I get a reply via email anytime in the day within 5-10 minutes.

Sorry Blugin
That is not such a good deal. I offer 750gb a month to all my clients that have servers with me and regular hosting clients have a max of 100gb+ i also include many more services like full featured spam filtering and virus protection for free and connectivity to 6 major backbones with 99.99% SLA or 100% SLA if you need it For 29$ a month you can get a full unix vserver with 40GB bandwidth and 150GB of disk space. You also get root access on the server and can use it for anything except SPAM or certain types of other sites. |

I get unlimited storage and unlimited bandwidth, unlimited email accounts (plus goodies) and domain parking, SSH, FTP, php, phpMyAdmin, cgi, stats, and some other crap
for $9.95/mo My opinion. If you are going to host for people, don't go for CHEAP and COMPETITIVE. You'll slave for idiots and won't be able to make a living. Instead, charge $100 month for customers who you've built sites for, and include 2-4 hours of web development/upgrades each month (or whatever) and make yourself value added. Since you built their site you know it well and keep it safe or whatever. Then, build a control panel or WYSIWYG HTML editor or something slick for them. I used to host for folks, and I charged $100/mo, 2 hrs of updates, and would hold their hands through anything. I only had like 5 customers, but they called me only 1-2 times a month. MAYBE. If you have 100 customers at $10 a month, and they each call you 1-2 times a month, now you have 100-200 calls a month and are working like crazy for jack squat. Don't do it man! |

^ Has a point since there is already a million and one hosting companies that are dirt cheap. You are best off finding a niche market and sticking with it and being the best in that field.
We found our niche market and leading the way in it. Just my .02 |
