Another 2 weeks gone and I'm STILL waiting for the 14.7 Haltech adapter to show up. So, we have decided to get the car down to the shop for the remaining fab work - IC pipe fab and welding brackets to the intake for the top mount oil cooler. I have a flatbed scheduled for tomorrow morning to take it down there.

In the meantime, I received new clips for the side skirts so I got those replaced and while I had the skirts off, gave them a really good cleaning, as well as the actual rocker panels on the car. Also replaced the little rear splash shields that attach to the side skirts with new ones.

Some of the old clips were OK but they were all just worn out and loose. Some not really even holding the skirts in place very well.

I only took pics of the driver side. Passenger side was just as grungy looking but they both cleaned up well.

Skirt off, rocker was horribly filthy underneath.

Pinch seams were all in decent shape. Driver side was the worst of it.

Cleaned up nicely.

Both skirts were filthy on the inside and some built up road grime on the outside around the jack points. Fortunately, all the inner white clips on both skirts were still in good shape, with none broken or missing.

New splash skirt.

And 2nd post because of ridiculous picture limitations per posting. I really hate this outdated forum software.

And the cleaned skirt installed with new retaining clips and splash guards in the rear.

It's because the owner isn't active on here and doesn't care about the forums...

I'm sure he thinks "the forums are dying so why invest money into them"

Oh, I know. It's just a shame since they are still fairly active. I think with updates to the forum software and getting the nasioc image site working properly again, there would be a resurgence in activity here.

Awesome find. It’s coming along pretty well.
I’m kinda looking for an older STI near Tucson as well.

I got this one up in the Phoenix area.

If you aren't yet, get onto Flat4Tucson Facebook group and maybe Arizona Subaru Parts group. Both have some listing for cars, so worth a look. I found mine via Craigslist.

Sent her off to the shop this morning for the IC pipe fab work and welding mounts to the intake for the top mount oil cooler. And for the break in tune. Whenever the damn adapter arrives... First time it's been out of the garage since November 7, 2021.

I’m on both Tucson and Phoenix, I didn’t know about the other. Thanks I’ll give it a look.

out of curiosity, did you need to replace the g / yaw sensor in this car?
i need one and they're surprisingly expensive for what it is, but i'm seeing them on ebay for $20-70. just not sure if that's a good idea or not.

respect on the rebuild here.

I haven't had to replace that, yet.

I had some DCCD codes when I first got the car and I saw that the g/yaw sensor can be part of the possible issues with that sometimes. I replaced both the auto/manual selector switch and the level selector switch and then finally the neutral position sensor in the trans and it seems to have resolved the codes that I was getting. Car doesn't run yet tho, so I'll have to wait and see once it's running, to ensure I resolved the DCCD functional issues.

Thanks!

Stopped by the shop today and they have started working on the car to figure out the IC pipes. Still no shipping info on the adapter from 14.7.

Excellent work bringing that STI back from the brink! You have breathed new life into a car that was heading for the abuse graveyard.

Appreciate it!

Car is still at the shop. Fab work isn't done yet but the Haltech adapter has shown up from 14.7 Solutions. Things are just super busy at the shop and they are working on getting caught up after having some personnel issues. They are down a mechanic now and busting ass to get caught back up. The car is next in line tho and I have told them I need to have it broken in and final tuned before 9/29 for the road trip I am doing to the PNW. So we need to have it driveable in a couple weeks at least so I can get the break-in miles done. Not blaming the tuner, he has had some bad luck with finding reliable people for the front office and mechanics. And he is in high demand here in Tucson for building and tuning cars, so he has a lot of work to catch up on and new stuff is constantly coming in. Soon tho, it will be on the road again very soon.

Incredible transformation, you should be quite proud. This is very motivating to keep fixing the little stuff on my sti. I think you have convinced me I need those downpipe and uppipe blankets.

Thanks!

I like the blankets better than actual wrap. The blankets aren't nearly as tight, allowing for some air gap which should help dissipate any moisture that might get in there and prevent any corrosion. Hopefully. The blankets are also thicker and will hopefully provide better insulation against heat and should last much longer than wrap does. Again, hopefully. I have no proof to actually back that up.

If you really want to manage the heat send out your parts to Swain tech to get their white lightning coating and then add a blanket on top. Swain tech on it's own does a hell of a job keeping heat inside the exhaust parts.

Looks like cool stuff but I'm not about to take the car apart just to have that applied. Blankets should be fine for street use.

Progress update! IC pipes have been made to fit the Cobb air box and my intercooler. Just the hot side needed the real change. They way we ran them, I lose the factory intake scoop but that's not a big deal really.

Waiting for the BOV flange to show up. Was supposed to be here Monday but it looks like it was missed or misplaced. That will be welded into the old pipe I have that we were able to reuse on the cold side.

Also got the oil cooler location planned out and should be getting the welding done for that next week or so. Hood will need a little trimming to clear the OC lines but not a big deal, you won't see that unless the hood is open anyhow.

Man this is absolutely awesome. Just spent the last couple of days going through this entire thread. I've got a 14 hatch, but it is just so refreshing to see someone take so much patience and care and put into something like this. Can't wait for the rest of the process.
