Default 2016 Throw out bearing....

I recently had some luck (?) with the throw out bearing. Dealer tried to 'fix' it twice and then wouldn't cover it after the warranty. Andrew Yates Auto put in a new clutch kit and SOA agreed to cover half. I think Subaru should have fixed this the first or second time and offered to fix it the third time.

If I were to litigate, about half is about all I could hope to recover after fees if the suit was successful. I think it's a good settlement but the whole ordeal leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

35,000 miles: Throw-out bearing squealing and replaced under warranty

36,000 miles: Throw-out bearing squealing and clutch pedal assembly squeaking. Both were replaced under warranty. The clutch starts chirping intermittently almost immediately after the 'repair' and the clutch pedal assembly never really stopped squeaking.

77,000 miles: Clutch is always chirping if the pedal is not depressed. The pedal squeaks. The dealer says a new clutch will fix it for $2695 and they will not cover it.

Contacted SOA and they said to kick rocks. Not surprised by the dealer or SOA but disappointed.

I went to Andrew Yates Auto in Gaithersburg, MD. Andrew tried putting lube on the fork pivot and that cured the chirping for a couple weeks. A while later I had a clutch kit, clutch fork, and clutch fork pivot install at Andrew Yates Auto (not AndrewTech, Andrew Yates is not associated with Andrew Tech anymore).

The clutch feels like it is supposed to. It is a pleasure driving again. No squeak from the clutch pedal and no chirping from the clutch. I can't emphasize how much nicer the clutch pedal feel is. It is so much lighter. You used to have to stomp on the pedal.

I went back and forth with SOA for many emails after all of this. Eventually I asked for this to be escalated to management and SOA offered to cover half of the repair.

Has anyone else had any luck with the Dealer or SOA regarding a chirping TOB?

Do you have an extended warranty?

Standard powertrain warranty is 5 years/60k miles, so I'm not surprised the dealer and SOA told you to pound sand after the 3rd time at 77k miles showing. Unless you had an extended powertrain warranty.

Sounds like you got lucky in getting SOA to finally cover half the cost of the repairs. If the problem was persisting after the 2nd time, at the 36k mark when the dealer replaced the TOB and clutch assembly, why didn't you press the issue and have them fix it again at that time?
