Who's denouncing the EVO? I think the car is terrific. It may even turn out to be a better all round car than the STI. We'll have to wait and see. As for the 13.1xx that we have now beaten to death..... What's the problem? If the car is capable of that then 13.1's thru 13.3's will be commonly reported numbers, just like the wrx's 14.1's thru 14.3's. If it's not then you will see more mid to high 13's. Time will tell.

Vehicle:04 STi - Sold! :( |
The STi is a awd rally based car. Who cares what it does in the 1/4? (Sorry, I couldn't resist. )
Seriously though, after reading this thead, I don't see what the deal is. We all know the SRT-4 is fastar. Ok, j/k again. But being serious for real this time, the STi makes ~30 more hp than the Evo at the engine. No matter what one driver can do with his Evo to bring it to 13 flat, another driver can bring his STi just beyond that. You guys are arguing tenths of a second in street car drag racing. Every driver is going to be different enough with these 2 well matched cars that stock to stock, most of the time, the better/more consistant driver will win out. Everyone is just speculating based on magazine articles at this point who are all testing on pre-production press vehicles. None are taking into consideration break in, fuel used, elevation, temperature, humidity, track surface, windpeed, or how much fuel is being used. With all these variables, the current numbers won't mean jack untill we see a straight up head to head test b/w the 2 cars on the same day, at the same time, and with the same driver, etc. This thread starded off with some neat litle video clips that provided a sneak peek at the STi's potential. It quickly turned into links to 20 different websites, each with 10 different times for each car with 100 differnt dyno sheets, so that the people arguing can;t even remember with whom, and about which bit of information was being argured. This is the intenet. People lie, people tell the truth, and some people don't know what the hell they arte talking about. In summary: 1) Don't compare numbers from mags with different testing practices. Way too many differences between them all. 2) Don't listen to the numbers on pre-production, or test fleet cars. They haven't been broken in and only have to last for 5k mi untill scrapped. 3) Why worry what any one person can do with any one car. The average Joe doesn't have 19 years or whatever of experience of drag racing. Ringers get produced, some people are nice at racing, some people lie. The only thing that matters is what the average person is going to be able to do with thier own car consistently. |
